Poor little pony. I think it's interesting that it may have been unintentional. What is it with people chopping ponies' manes and tails like that?
Someone told me it was to do with rocking horses but i can't believe that

how sick.
we had our tail stolen just before christmas, and it snt a crime because "it will grow back" i'd like to see them try and grow a 27 year old's tail back! The police tol us that was about rocking horses(especiaslly as it was around christmas)
x

very sad, hope the pony will still trust people.
When my mare got stabbed in her stable many years ago, it took many years for her to completely trust people and even now she will always stand and look in a stable before entering

I honestly don't know what the world is coming to...these sick deviants...I hope the pony managed to plant his teeth or feet on them before they got him in the eye.
Sick, really, really sickening.
:-(

Very sick! I can only say I totally understand what the owners are going through. I can't write here what I'd do to them - my comment would most likely not be published!!

Sorry - I just thought.....on researching horse attacks on the internet (because my own mare was attacked two weeks ago tonight actually) I came across a play that had been written about a boy that stabbed horses in the eyes! I read somewhere when the play came to the stage again there were attacks on horses of this nature.

What a terrible thing to happen. Poor pony.

Wasn't there something in the news recently about 2 rotties that ripped a pony to death in a field and had to be shot by the police to bring them to a holt.

What on earth happens to the irresponsible owners of such animals

That is just so sick!
I sincerely hope that whoever is responsible is caught. No matter if they just intended to cut its mane and tail I really cannot condone any such action on a horse or pony, especially when their actions have led to the blindness of an eye for the little mite.

Lily that play you are referring to is quite possible Equus. It was written in 1973 by Peter Shaffer and was about a psychiatrist and his attempt to treat a boy with a pathological religious/sexual fascination with horses. The original play was written by Shaffer after reading about a crime in which a 17 year old had blinded 6 horses in an area just outside of London. It is not just written about a boy who stabs horses in the eyes but about the underlying cause of his obscene fascination with them. The play was adapted by Shaffer for a film version of the same name in 1977. The stage version was revived in 2007 with Daniel Radcliffe and Richard Griffiths playing the starring role of the lad. I can remember seeing the original film version starring, Richard Burton, Jenny Agutter and Peter Firth ( from Spooks). That scene really shocked me as a kid but I don't believe that it would influence someone to maim an animal in such a way unless the morbid desire to do so was already there.
I can also remember ( I think it was during the 90's) in which there were several attacks on horses in several parts of the UK. Many of which were slashings and mutilations and some were also of a sexual nature or involved the genitals. So what is indeed happening today ie in the reports of slashings/maiming of horses is nothing new. Whether or not any are related to the original crimes I don't know. Some maybe? Others are just a sad reflection of today's youth and their lack of respect for life, particularly animal life. If anyone ever watched a programme some years back that connected animal abuse with human crime such as GHB/ABH and murder/manslaughter it was fascinating to watch, even if the subject was rather morbid.
It was very sad that a lot of the people in the programme grew up with little respect of animals which in turn led to crime towards people. I can remember one guy who admitted to having chopped his pet rabbit in half with a spade (I think it was?) as a kid/teenager. He was later in prison for a serious crime, it may have been manslaughter I really cannot remember?
I would say though that with regard to the show pony in the story it was a crime of punishment for the owners who were doing so well in the showing scene. Maiming the pony to prevent them from winning. Obviously I don't think they intended to stab the animal's eye as I reckon that was an accident. It doesn't excuse their actions though.
With the other cases such as the one involving the mare Maggie ( I actually cried when the original story hit the news) I think that those involved were thinking of maiming/inflicting pain and nothing else in between. Perhaps there are people who are jealous of horses? Horses in a sense epitomise the essence of a perfect animal is some cases. When galloping around in a field, they look proud, muscular, un hindered ( haven't a care or thought in the world) and are free from pressure. Free to run around and do as they will.
There may be people in society who are so conformed by rules that they see an animal such as this as being very much how they would like to be, free and careless and as such their rebellion against society and conformity is to kill or maim the very creature who is a reminder of what they are not but who secretly aspire to be in their sub conscious mind.
Of course there are also those who are drug/drink fuelled who commit crimes such as those for the sheer hell of it and are perhaps influenced by a 'gang' setting and about showing off who is 'manly' enough to tackle such a large animal alone.
Then there are those who seek sexual gratification from inflicting pain and suffering on beings. Even sexually mutilating them. Animals are easier targets for them. Humans, be it kids or adults will talk eventually or else someone 'professional' will spot the abuse and trace those responsible or in the case of a crime the police will try their hardest to track down the killer/abuser.
In the case of an animal though who will know?
If the action was done by the offender alone, it is unlikely he/she was seen. The animal can't speak. Horses are either in fields when it gets dark or else stabled and not all have security lights/cameras and so on, so are easy targets.
If anyone ever googled beastiality ( I have for research purposes only sorry but it don't float my boat, yuk) then you will see all too often that the animals used mostly are horses and dogs. Dogs are less likely to be attacked/abused unless by someone in that household or access to the dwelling in which most dogs are kept but horses are fair game for any member of the public as they are not kept inside people’s houses.
Sorry if I have upset or offended anyone.
The above is just my thoughts on the matter.
I am not condoning anyone's actions btw it is just an explanation of my reasoning behind the actions of some individuals as I try in vain to get my head around the idea how anyone could inflict such pain and suffering on animals ( especially horses).
