Why are horses such bastards to each other?!

Zoom has been away for two weeks competing and a new mare has been put in the field. Monty is a mega-hunk so obviously they all fancy him. Zoom and Monty are boyfriend and girlfriend so there is a bit of a love triangle going on.

I went down yesterday and she has been double-barrelled and both hind legs are very swollen. She is sound in trot and has no problems weighbearing, just swollen and stiff. I hosed, bandaged and buted and she was a bit better this morning. No xc for us on Sunday!

It's annoying since she is not shod behind and, with only having one eye, she can't really defend herself so always comes off worst.

Get well soon Zoomy!

has the mare that done the damage been removed? I have to say if I was missing out on a competition due to injuries another liveries horse inflicted I would have to ask fro my horse to be moved, it's not on, yes horse's fight but when it comes to more than a few knocks and bumps they should be separated. this is why competition horses often don't get to go out and play with friends!

Thanks for the vibes.:)

She is arnica'd up! Said horse is unfortunately still in the field. There are 20 of them together and, at £25 per month, you get what you pay for! I don't know for certain that the new mare is to blame since it happened when no one was there. If there are real trouble makers, they do get removed but it doesn't happen very often. I think it's just rejigging the pecking order.......which is little consolation when it's your horse that's been kicked.

We only do local stuff since we're both a bit crap but it's still horrible when they're injured.

Can you not ask if you could have a piece of land taped off for yours/ Not always possible , I know, but, as she has only one eye it might stop her getting into too many scrapes.

LOL no harm in just doing local stuff, I think you have to have a lot of time and money to do much else

I suppose for £25 a month you can't really complain, I hope they do sort it out without any further injury. It amazes me that 25 hors can get on

my girl is out with 3 others at night and 1 is out during the day, they constantly bicker! Lucky none of them have shoes and 4 out of 5 are old ladies who can't lift their back legs very high

They were in a separate paddock but the grass is very poor in there now so I had to move them in with the others. Monty is 28 and very skinny.......plus he has very few teeth so finds it hard to eat when the grass is short. He needs the good grass to get weight on for Winter.

They can't be separated coz of the love factor. Me and my bloody special needs horses!!!!!

Note to self - just because the horse costs a pound and has a sad story, doesn't mean you have to take it home
