Ok, so dog (11 yrs old) was fine and dandy at the weekend. Monday went to the field with my mum and since then started throwing up. Ok, so nothing extraordinary, dogs do that sometimes.

However, he got progressively worse, would not eat and whatever he drunk was thrown up pretty much straight after. Dog feeling v v sorry for himself.

As not better on Tues and as still not wanting any food - not passing any stools, just gassy and water coming out, - took him to the vet. Vet has given him long lasting ABs and some injection to stop the vomiting. Stomach not distended and heart etc fine. Dog has stopped vomiting but now it starts coming out the other end - just water and gas! However, dog seems to improve but vet had wanted to see him the day after.

He went back yesterday - vitals all the same and seemed to perk up. He even was keen to have some food! However, today he seems depressed again, won't eat anything and, although not vomiting or desperate to go to the loo, when he does go it's just diarrhoea but not alot of it.

We have been given some electrolytes to give him in water but he is not keen and is refusing to entertain any food (he is usually quite fussy but has some favourite things). Should I take him back to the vets tomorrow if he still hasn't improved??

I really don't know what to do. I mean he can do the 'depressed dog' act very well anyway but I am unsure how long's too long for them not to eat. He is drinking fine but is very depressed and not keen to go out for a walk or anything. I am suspicious he has a blockage (bone from rabbit or something) but vet doesn't seem to think so.

Anyone who's experienced anything similar and has any advice/thoughts it would be appreciated.

My puppy was exactly the same, she is 24/7 bouncy and alert, and she woke us up one night crying..
She was being sick the first night so took her to the vets the next day, had the injection to stop the sickness, she didnt go to the toilet for days but was *ahem* passing wind alot, and wouldnt eat at all.
She sat in her bed all day for 2/3 days feeling sorry for herself apart from going for a wee. All of a sudden after 3/4 days she started to eat little tiny bits of food, and started to perk up.
The vet thought she had just eaten something, or possibly a blockage. But he said to wait and see after a few days if she was any better. After another day or so they were going to x ray to see if there was a blockage, but as she started eating little meals again and it was coming out the other end..they didnt have to

ETA: When she did go to the toilet, there were what looked like threads in it, and she has a tendency to rip threads off mats/carpets etc so we think thats what made her poorly

I think he's in discomfort more than pain whihc i am assuming is normal as it would be with us if throwing up/having diarrhoea for a while.

Thing is he's normally v fussy food wise although he's partial to eating rabbit or anything 'nasty' he may find but he has never been like this. He has a dry warm nose and checking his gums they are quite dark red. Just saw some wildlife vet prog on TV earlier and they mentioned something about gums being too dark red indicating a toxin is present. Hmm, that concerns me a little! Think he always has darker gums than our other dog though.

Why do animals like to worry us like this?!
