My OH's Border, Morse, is 13 this year, and is normally full of life and naughtiness. Yesterday he was completely out of sorts; he wouldnt eat, and wouldnt touch a drop of water - which is so unusual for him because he normally drinks a hell of a lot (OH + vet suspect he may have diabetic tendencies). He was sick 7 times throughout the day - just bile-type vomit - which again isnt like him at all. He hasnt been number-twos for 48 hours, and although he is weeing still (with no blood in wee) he doesnt seem to know he is doing it - he just piddles all over his front legs, sometimes walking off whilst doing it. We took him to the vet at 7.30 last night, and vet said temperature was fine, and at that point, he wasnt too dehydrated. She said she could feel a hard lump in his tummy - and he was whining a little when she examined him - but she hoped the lump was just a 'full bladder'.
so she said he was fine to be sent having taken a blood sample to be analysed this morning. She gave him a 'pick me up' and something to stop the sickness, but this morning he is just the same. He ate the tiniest bit of rice, but still looks at the water bowl like its about to attack him! Still piddling without knowledge or effort, and still lying down shivering all the time. He also seems to be having problems hearing/orienting himself; you can call him three or four times and he either ignores, or stares round in all the wrong places.
Do these symptoms sound familiar to anyone? Morse has had problems with his thyroid, liver and kidneys in the past, and his teeth and gums are awful, but vets have always been loathed to operate because they dont think his heart would stand up to the anaesthetic
