Hiya all............ Poorly foal doing not too bad. Eating and drinking like mad so very pleased about that..........!
The main problem is not with baby but with mum..... her udder half on the left-hand side has completely died but it seems to have developed an abscess on the outside rather than the inside of her udder........ it's almost like it has been burst..... wasn't till I got them in yesterday and had a wee feel that I felt milky stuff coming out in-between both teats........ her right side is perfectly healthy but I have weaned the foal because he continues to believe the otherside will taste better with time!!!
Foal is very poorly but I think he's going to be alright....... he's much healthier than the last wee man was when he took ill......... If I keep up the work I did with the first one this one will be a dawdle!
Mare could get worse and if she takes gangrene it's serious enough to pts.......... I would really be upset with this because she's been so good with everything....... injections, milking, scrubbing and the fact her foal is getting every bucket going... (he has a special buffet available with very nice baby blue buckets.......4 of!) She has come from such a bad place and she deserves much better than to be ill........ she's bright in herself but I'm so scared incase she gets gangrene i'm thinking the worst all the time........
Sorry for the ramble........

Belgian chocolate cheesecake and icecream for everyone who made it this far......... Oh and Hot chocolates too!!!
Unless MrsM can think of anything else to add

Thanks spookypony......p.s. i love your stories!!!
I'll be putting photos on tomorrow hopefully.... depending on how well i get on brining the rest of the older foals in tomorrow!!

I'm glad foaly seems to be doing ok. I hope the mum is ok. Good luck and keep up the good work i'm shore you can do it. Atleast you are giving them a chance.

I would guess your vet already has you doing this buy when my mare had mastitis she put onto heavy duty antibiotics, had her food cut right down to try to dry her up and had the infected teat "milked" every couple of hours with a syringe to get the gunk out.

Best wishes and vibes to both foal and mum.

Thanks Eggs, She is being milked several times a day on her good side...... her bad side has no milk at all and is so bad that the vet has advised not to try milking it at all as it would be far too painful for her. I'm also washing her wound with hibiscrub after each milking session...... she's like a dairy cow on her good side but it is slowly reducing already.
She has also had injection antibiotics and I'm giving her oral antibiotics every day... and she also has had anti-inflamatory injections....
Her food has been reduced because she is now off the grass and in a stable (getting walked out in hand twice a day to help reduce swelling) and she is only getting hay and a small feed of bruised barley and sugar beet for her meds..
So far so good...... foal managed a semi formed poo today and is eating like mad and Mum is still bright in herself so fingers crossed all goes well!
