My 8 year old GSD bitch isnt right and Im getting desperately worried. Only symptoms are staring eyes, panting and wont leave my side. The last two nights she has insisted on lying next to me in bed and wont move. She is eating and drinking normally, toilet stuff is normal, dont think its pyametra. She is rubbing her head on me quite alot. Totally out of sorts and quiet for about a week now, but nothing I can identify. This just isnt her.

Not alot to go on I know, but any ideas would be much appreciated.

Sorry to hear she is feeling poorly.
Pyometra or a phantom was the first thing I thought of.

Has she put on weight or does she seem to be struggling under a weight? It might be to do with her liver or spleen, keep an eye on her and take her to the vets if you can.

Dont want to worry you, but my aunt's GSD showed some of these symptoms last year prior to finally being diagnosed with a brain tumour, which resulted in her being PTS after an awful, horrid struggle against it

She was only 7 years old, and they never found out what it was that had caused the tumour.

Get your girlie checked out ASAP. I hope she's ok; I wouldnt wish any dog to suffer what poor Ava had to go through

I also dont like those signs, It could be nothing, but please get her checked. My old bitch started with those symptoms when she was 9, turned out she was very unwell. I only noticed that her bark got weak, and then she began the panting/staring a day or two later. It wouldnt hurt to take her asap to get her looked at.
Let us know, hope she gets better v.soon.

Thanks for all your good wishes. Took Mika to see vet - temperature within normal parameters and heart normal. She was 99% sure it wasnt a brain tumor but said it could be the initial stages of 'closed pyometra', but strange that she is not drinking excessively (thats my job). Gave injections of Metacam and penicyllin to cover her for the weekend and she is now bright eyed again. Taking her back on Monday morning if she is no better. Vet said that if she has pyometra, the drugs wont help her to feel any better.

I can help any animal in distress, so why is it that when it comes to my own babies, Im a jibbering muppet?

Hi everyone. Mika has been really well over the weekend and has lost that 'old' look and her coat is shining. She is still panting at times and sleeping very close to me. Last night she was trying to get behind the cushions on the sofa which to me is a symptom of wanting to hide from pain/discomfort.

There are absolutely no signs of pyometra as her drinking/eating is normal and there is no vomitting.

I have been googling all over the weekend to try to find something which fits the few symptoms but to no avail. I would be interested in the liver/spleen suggestion - what would be the symptoms? Gums and eyes are normal colour.
