I'm so worried and the Vet is doing lots of tests today to try and identify exactly what is going on. :(

Two weeks ago he was in a cat fight and had five puncture wounds on one of his front legs. We took him straight to the Vet's and they clipped the leg, cleaned it up and gave him a painkilling injection and AB's.

We had to rush him back later the same day because he had stopped drinking (and eating) and it was a very hot day and he was becoming very dehydrated. He was then kept in overnight on a drip and improved alot. We were able to take him home at lunchtime the following day. Two hours after coming home he had caught a rabbit and eaten as much of it as he could stuff in. He had a course of AB tablets which I was able to give him with no trouble.

Last saturday he went downhill again, so he went back to the Vet's. He was very dehydrated again, he also had no colour in his eyelids and gums. He had some blood taken and it was very dark and thick. He stayed there on a drip until Monday when he had started to eat and drink again. Once home he patrolled the garden and sprayed various flower pots as he normally would. He also played with his kitten (well young cat) and was eating and drinking normally.

This morning he was lethargic again, he was also dehydrated and had the pale gums etc... So back to the Vet's again. :( The blood tests were back. He is NOT anemic and everything was in normal range (he was also neg for FIV). Heart sounds fine but his temp was 104 (it had always been normal before). The Vet is also not sure that it is related to the original bite.

The Vet will be ringing me later today. Hopefully with an answer that is treatable. This little cat is irreplaceable, he's such an character (eg, if you are brushing your teeth and he wants a hug, he'll just climb up into your arms if you don't stop and pick him up quickly).

Please send get well vibes, he really needs them. :(

OK, update from the Vet.

His temp is down, now 101 and he is now eating and drinking (has come off the drip). Some blood has been sent off to test for toxoplasmosis and the Vet also wants to try some different AB's tomorrow.

So good news so far, but no diagnosis yet.

Yeah, he is tough. :D The Vet said that she now knows when he's starting to feel better as he starts to 'talk' to her (typical vocal Burmese).

Aww - bless him :) I love chatty cats - Burmese have so much character :) When my bengal girls got spayed the vet phoned me a few hours early to pick them up as they were 'very lively' - all I heard was LOUD bengal wailing in the background. They proceeded to climb the curtains and go crazy cat as soon as they got home

Will you get the blood results later today? It is horrible to be waiting without knowing what you are dealing with. Is he coming home soon?

I was told that the blood test results may take a few days. Hopefully he'll respond to the new AB's quickly and then be home permanently rather than just for a few days (as has happened twice now :( ). I'm getting an update at 9am tomorrow.

When I was looking for a kitten recently, I almost got a Bengal but a lady who was above me on the waiting list suddenly decided to have two kittens, so I missed out. Luckily I saw an ad for some Egyptian Maus that were close to where I live and I now have my little Silver Mau. This is the kitten that the burmese has really taken to and has even tried to teach him to hunt.

A friend of mine breeds Sphynx cats they are hideous.

Nooooooooooooo - I looked after a sphinx at Christmas. She used to crawl under my jumper and suck my neck like a vampire!!! They are actually really gorgeous people cats

I love my bengals though.

I am sure this gorgeous boy will pull through. Its amazing how quickly they can come right - and hopefully new AB's will do the trick :) Be firm and tell them to get a rush on those bloods

Good to hear he's on the mend. I so love your new kitten such a pretty colour.

I had two Birmen/farm cat crosses Catalyst brown with dark & light stripes and Catastrophe completely grey with beautiful green eyes. Sadly lost Alys Fat Cat to the neighbourhood cat poisoner - she being a greedy cat lapped up the antifreeze he'd put out she was not quite two years old. (He got found out the following year when he tried it on my neighbours cat)

Astro is vocal as - he speaks Catlish - I understand what he is asking for, will trip you up with a well aimed paw if you don't give him sufficient attention, likes to be rubbed dry with a towel if he comes home wet - goes back out again a few mins later to repeat the attention. Gives a lecture when you're late home or there is insufficient food in his bowl. Oriental cats are great characters.

Good news! :D He's home!

I got back with him about 20 mins ago. We were there ages but he is alert, bright and feeling much better. I'm just hoping like crazy that he stays well because his illness is still a complete mystery.

Evelyn, your cats are really lovely. I can't believe that someone poisened your other cat, how cruel. You must have been devastated. I'm so sorry that that happened.

Yes, he's being very demanding and has gently clawed me to get my attention already.

Thanks to everyone who have sent him positive vibes, it's really kind of you all. :)

*Still keeping my fingers crossed that it's all over now.*

Edited to say sorry he's brown mine was black. Lovely pictures.

Slightly belated update! :)

Good news, he's all better. He had two more lots of antibiotics and we ended up using a syringe to make sure that he was hydrated (which was fun :p ).

All his test results came back negative, so no-one understands what was going on, but hopefully (he's been fine for three weeks now) it will never happen again.
