Poor Nooks is not feeling well,

hes had the runs for 2 days and today OH said there was blood in it, and he keeps trying to have a poo but nothing comes out :S

he was starved this morning, he had a poo tonight or many attempts at trying to but it was too dark to tell if there was any blood, as the blood was really dark this afternoon.

Iv given him chicken and rice tonight, hopefully that should settle his dleicate tummy :(

hes had a few bones recently (the knuckle type ones) do you think that is the cause?
usally hes fine with them or his poo is even a bit tougher than usual a day of so after hes had a bone.

hes all ways had a delicate tum, but everytime we have seen vet about it and they have been happy theres never blood present, so now there is im a bit worried.

if theres no change tomorrow ill call them for some advice, or should I just take him in?

also his eyes seem to be weepy recently, and i dunno if im being paranoid now but im sure hes drinking more.

any thoughts!?

thanks for listening

:) serena

The minute I saw blood in his poo I would have taken him to the vet, I would certainly ring your vet now and ask for advise.

The darker the blood usually indicates that it is old blood and the fact he is straining means that there is something wrong and he cant pass it.

Dont wont to worry you but better safe than sorry.

Dont give him anything to eat in case he needs surgery.

Oh my god :O

** digging out after hours phone number***

Ditto Dobiegirl - also for future reference I would always starve for 24 hours minimum before re-introducing bland food? I find ProKolin (a probiotic paste) really good and the dogs like it too (it is cheaper online than from a vets however!)

Hope everything goes OK at the vets

my vets is closed, RVC is their emergency back up, just phoned their emergencey line, having a vet call me back.

£120 just to see the vet!! any medication or treatment isnt even worth thinking about!! :O:O

Serena I do wish you well with your dog your vet might suggest leaving it until the morning but at least it will put your mind at rest.

After having huge vet bills with my last dog my current 2 are insured you learn the hard way I guess but your dogs welfare always comes first.

Keep us posted.

thank you :)

he is insured so i dont have that to worry about, I will probably leave him till the mornning, if he was acting out of character i would not think twice about taking him, but hes still his bouncy self :)

ill be on the phone 1st thing tomorrow to my vet.

thanks everyone!

My dog had the same symptoms when he had an impacted bowel - basically swallowed a stone that he could not pass.

Small residue of blood, drinking masses of water and weepy eyes...........I would say aswell get him to a vets because its the gases that build up inside that are dangerous.

Roo also started to vomit quite a lot ( very smelly ) - I hope everything is all ok ( dogs can be so stupid )!!

took him to the vets last night, she said his tummy is inflammed and hes quite sore all round that area, she said its a common thing for german sheps to get inflammed intestines, i didnt really get the name of it, but she said maybe the bone he had aggrevated it and made it bleed.

so he had an anti inflammatory injection and is on a course on antibiotics. so hopfuly he wont have to go back :)

I wish your dog all the best. Hope he's back to his old self soon.
There such a worry sometimes arn't they. But we wouldn't be without them for the world. :)

A friend of mine has just popped in to tell me about her dog who she took to the vets last night with similar symptons and the vet said he had colotis.

You were very lucky with your dog Serena one of mine had similar symptons on a Sunday morning I took him straight to the vets got treatment and went home. I went back in the afternoon as he had got worse and he was admitted. He had to be put down on the Monday as he was fading fast.

I did all the right things but my dog still died so the fact you left your dog overnight really saddens me.

He's been on the meds 2 days and has hardly pooed at all now! He had a very small one Friday am no blood! But since then there gave been no poo reports! Maybe a pelet or 2 but no way near his tesco bag filling poo!!

Another call to the vet I think :(
