Hi This may be me being over paranoid, but my 17.2hh 15 year old mare seems to poo alot when she is being lunged or ridden. at least 5 times for 30 minutes, is this normal? could it be a stress releasent as after she works she does seem really mellow and de stressed. Any help grately recieved :)

It does sound like she's a bit stressed or tensed. My mare doesn't like travelling much so if a trailer or box pulls up near her stable she starts to poo alot. I'm really not sure what to suggest x

Do you let her stop to poo? I know a couple of horses that use it to avoid working but otherwise it can be a sign of stress.

My 5 yo gelding & his same aged best mate can fill half a wheelbarrow during a schooling session
Both are very not stressed, super mellow and don't slow down to poo ... it just keeps on coming out while we ride. I used to worry about it, but they poo normally the rest of the time, so maybe just one of those things.

Maybe she just likes to run on empty? I used to own one like this, it really was that simple. He's very chilled and happy, but poos a lot whilst working or just before he starts if he can...

My boy does this too - his is most likely a stress thing - he is a little stress bunny! :)

I used to have a TB that did this too though - he was mainly a super chilled out chap - but still liked to do a million poos when I was riding him!! You could always tell where we had been out hacking - it was usually like a Hansel & Gretel trail he left behind him.

The only good thing is that with any luck, if she's pooing while she's working, there may be a couple less to have to muck out from her stable or poo pick from the field :D
