A lovely day was had by all, the weather was fantastic, and I have to say I have never met such a friendly, helpful, professional group of helpers/volunteers/stewards. I said thank you to as many as possible as they truly were outstanding.

On to Mr Liberty's first BE report: plaited last night and threw everything in lorry. Got up at 4.30 this morning, drove through Watford seeing people on their way home! Left yard at 6, picked up OH who'd stayed in bed for an extra 45 mins

. Got there, walked course, thought quite twisty, but on the whole very nice, started encouraging, then asked few more questions in the 2nd half, including a coffin with a jump with a drop on the way in with a stride to the ditch. Had an alternative, whoich I thought would be wise to take as I didn't want him stopping at the 1st element, when he suddenly saw the ditch.

Went off to warm up for dressage, was quite fresh and on his toes, but got him relaxed and working nicely, then went over to arena and THE WHITE BOARDS WERE LIBERTY-EATING MONSTERS!!!! He wouldn't go within 2 yards of them unfortunately, and ground to a halt twice when I tried to force the issue

. Twat. So a mark of 41.something wasn't too bad really, she must have liked some bits. Didn't get my sheet.

Was really quite cross with him, but no time to dwell on it as had to go and show-jump. He hasn't seen an sj course in about 3 months which was worrying me slightly, but the fillers weren't too scary. Did a nice clear, so went back to horsebox more cheerful. Had a natter with lucretia on my way back!

Quick fag break, then xc preparations. By now L is thinking he's due a break! Warmed up without stopping - a plus! Set off out start box quite warily, but got better and better as we went round. Granted he got a few smacks and there was some true thelwell kicking going on, but in general he was quite bold (for him). Trotted a couple of the turns so we didn't overshoot fences, jumped the coffin

. Very funny though, walked through the water where HJ had her mishap, then I just sort of expected him to take up canter again... but no, he would have quite happily continued to mooch along in walk! Finished really well, clear with 11.6 time. Rang Connie, his breeder, and she didn't believe me when I said he'd managed a double clear!

Don't know where we ended up, but between now and Munstead I am going to build every kind of dressage arena I can, and maybe put boards in his stable! Really pleased with him, now off to put photos in gallery.

ETS: just looked at BDWP, we were 29th.... onwards and upwards I hope!

Well done! Shame they used the pony eating white boards, they normally only get those ones out for me

Double clear is great though! x

You must be v chuffed with a double clear for his first event, even if there is still a lot of improvement to come in the dressage when he gets over the "white board" thing.
Can't wait to see the photos.

pn. yes, I'm open to offers on him, that last salary from BD isn't going to last me very long at all

. Was quite gratified, John Bowen kept taking long looks at him in the dr warm-up, even though he was supposed to be working 3 pupils! When photobucket finally gets its act together you'll see why I think his flatwork has improved, and why, once we're over the white board phobia, I should be cross with myself if we're not scoring under 25! 3 dressage poeple have now said I should sell him as a dressage pony. Guess I really would have to solve the white board prob though then wouldn't I ?!

Well done its certainly a good start with a double clear. Onwards and upwards.

Your txt made me giggle. Sh*t dressage but double clear lol
I was so pleased to hear this.
Dressage was most def stressage today, hey ho! hes allowed its the first event of the season, he'll be much better next time lol

Well done hunny, looking forward to seeing pics.

BIG well done!!!!

Should be able to go out and Novice soon with William then!

I agree that everyone - starters, stewards etc were extremely friendly - a very nice event.

And the weather and ground couldnt have been better

Have worked out that I could do Burnham Market and SoE with both of them, L running PN and W Nov. That way I don't have to rush L too much. Then will reasess situation and decide which and when to sell!

After grt witch I have three weeks till SOE but there isnt anything else I could do Intro wise as I want SOE to be their 1st PN as it is quite small. oh well 3 week wait!

Dressage will come wont it - well the board thing will sort its self out I would have thought. Spider was just having a good look around in her test!! and I had to stand up in my stirrups to get her to slow down!!

so I thought 37 was very gd for how she went! But I thought that will come with time, its easier to work on the jump phases I think!!

Can you post link to what you think is his pic? He went xc as I was sitting down to my lunch, so I'd got back to lorry, washed off, walked, put him away, walked down and got burger! So would have thought about an hour after me...
