Luckily there is no major rush to make any decisions, we can manage the three so BBP isn't left alone, its just that 4 is an easier number long term. We can take our time to work out what is right for us, and for me to work out where my heart is. I thought I had lost my love of riding, but I think with the right horse I would regain it, as I do miss it sometimes. I sat on BBP for a few minutes the other day for some photos and thought how much I missed riding him.

In some ways an older horse stepping down and wanting a lovely home would suit fine as its a known entity and I would know if it hacks out safely.

If you have time, I think that's great as it means there's no rush finding something suitable. I don't know what success you'd have, but a wanted ad on a local endurance group might be worth a try? I think it's a bit "being in the right place at the right time" sort of thing, but I do know a few of these which have worked out really well.

Firstly, I’m very sorry to hear about your old boy.

When we were in your position after losing mum’s old boy, with three horses and being unable to box out without the one at home being left in distress.

We bought mum a 13yr old EMSy Riding Pony. He was on Preloved and a home more important than price type situation.

He’s firstly a companion to my EMS Connemara but he’s also mum’s own pony that she enjoys whizzing about the countryside on.

And it means we can ride together without my drama llama boy threatening to kill himself.

In previous situations when we had an awkward number I’ve bought youngsters. It’s always worked out well ?

But to summarise - the answer is definitely to buy another one. ?

Sorry to hear the sad news about your companion pony.

You and BBP definitely need and deserve an arab. Ridden ones people will part with are a bit few and far between though, you might need to be patient or opt for a youngster.

Ah no ?. TBF mines a bit of a batty potato too. She does have double pearl horses now and they are ? (and not by Lengueto ?).
Doubt they would be in my budget! But I might have a nosy out of curiosity.

Lengueto is BBPs grand sire (can’t remember if I’ve said that before?), although from what I gather his bonkersness might be more from his sire line.

Yes as he is a sort of nephew of mine ?. Her sire is Lengueto, out of a TB mare and she is mad as a box of frogs.

Hermosa is not nuts (now that loopy pre/post-natal hormones have tailed off...), and her breeder has more youngstock for sale. Obviously her breeder's practices are what they are, but I'd love to see her siblings in good homes. They have such nice temperaments.

Sorry to hear about little pony, but even so it's nice to hear from you and to know BBP is doing well.

If your sister has two in work and is riding and leading to keep them fit, and you're struggling for time, could you not ride one of them and get a little companion from a rescue?

This would seem a really sensible and logical solution. It probably sounds really spoilt or mean but as lovely as they are (more sensible, safe to hack, well mannered) I just don’t *feel* anything when I ride them. I think I’m very much the type who rides because they love their horse and the relationship with it, rather than riding just to ride. I miss the partnership side. So although I do ride them at times and I’m really grateful that she trusts me with them, I never really have the urge to or find the joy to. Maybe I’ll be the same about any horse that isn’t BBP.

Yes he's a tiddler, gorgeous though. :D

Maybe a more sensible suggestion is something like this chap. He's an anglo-arab and they are the bees knees IME. Doesn't move straight enough for endurance but that might not bother you. Probably in completely the wrong part of the country though.

It is definitely worth keeping your eye out for arabs and PBAs (if you are happy with a part bred) for sale on the various sites, arabianlines has a couple of nice fillies currently. :)

I really like this one. If he had been for sale this time last year, I think I would have at least gone for a look.

Hmmm, I may have done a thing. Having decided 3 was manageable through winter and didn’t need a number 4 this year. It’s entirely not my fault, people should not send me pictures. Hopefully i can tell you all about it once it’s a 100% in my field certainty.

Waiting ?‍♂️ .....
