A little update for those of you following Poppy!

She is home! Yay! I am so relieved to have her home. She is still a very poorly dog, but is slowly on the mend and the vets think being in her own surroundings will help her. We have to keep her very, very quiet and she has to rest.

She has a whole cocktail of drugs to take - hubby has had to write it all down on a timed chart to make it easy to understand which ones to give her, and when. Basically every two hours she needs a different batch of drugs. And we are doing two hourly observations on her pulse, gum colour, noting her bodily movements etc so we can update the vet and notice if anything changes.

We couldn't get her straightaway this morning because her red blood count had dipped overnight. It was 29 yesterday, and this morning it was 25. The vets decided that she could come home, on the proviso that she is rested.

At the moment she is sleeping on the foot of my bed (where she has been mostly all day!) and I am in bed with my laptop and hubby bringing up lots of tea!

She is eating little bits of cooked chicken and soft dog food. She is not as bright as her normal zippy self, but is happy. Her tail wagged so much when she got home, she was clearly happy to be back.

The reunion between her and our red setter, Wilson, was tearful. He was licking her all over and she was kissing him back!

She has to have another round of tests on Monday. I am hoping I can build her up by then with lots of love, sleep and good food.

I am gonna make her better.

Thank you guys so much for all your help. I am really, really grateful and you have really pulled me through this. If I could buy each one of you a bunch a flowers I would, but I have a huge vets bill to pay! lol

thanks again.

So glad she is home with you - I believe it makes a big difference for any pet to be at home with familiar suroundings and people.

Big cuddles for her and I hope her recovery continues at speed

She will do so much better at home. I see a very spoilt Poppy dog on the horizon!! Will keep everything crossed for her. Well dome little lady.

Thanks both. I'm glad you both think she will do better at home. I keep worrying that it is too much for her at home, but she's only been dozing on my bed since, so she's not had much excitement really.

I am worried about making sure I do everything right for her.

That is great news, I am so pleased to hear that Poppy is home

Sounds like she is doing the right thing by resting in the lap of luxury too

Try not to worry about doing the right thing, she will feel 100% better now she is home, and will be delighted to have you around again, that is what matters to her

Onwards and upwards from here I hope

So pleased she is home. I firmly believe dogs are like us and are more relaxed in their familiar surroundings. If the vet had any doubt she should stay in I am sure he would have kept her. Fingers and toes crossed that she continues to make good progress.

All digits crossed for you - fingers, toes, paws, the lot! I'm sure that they feel better when they get home too

I have been following this but I missed the first post.

She sounds happy to be home

Well done little Poppy - look forward to even better news over the next few days! It's so good for her to be at home with those who love her best!
