I lost a youngster to surgical colic who initially seemed to be making a recovery so I can imagine how you must be feeling. Whilst you never fully get over their loss it does get easier over time.
So sorry. I lost my beautiful Poppy to colic 18 months ago. I'm older and she was my quiet, gentle horse who I was going to finish riding with. But like your Poppy , it wasnt to be. I have got a youngster now so maybe your Mom will find a new best friend one day. Thinking of you and your Mom. Rest in Peace Poppy xx
Gosh I am overwhelmed by the lovely kind replies and I have spoken to Mum and passed on everyones kind thoughts - she is a little bit of a technophobe but I will try and get her logged on soon.
Thank you to Sandy who told of the loss of her Poppy but for the hope that Mum may find the strength to love a pony again. I hope I may persuade her in a few months to sit on my wonderful Trixie who is another gentle soul and she may give her the confidence in time to think about starting again.
Your hugs and kind words are very welcome and appeciated at this cold and dark time for us.
My Mum lost her old pony to colic too - he was 28 and she was 78 and they'd been on a hack with me and my horse the day before. BUT she did ride again - the Y/O's old pony and was still talking about getting herself another aged 80 when she too died.
I know nothing ever replaced (or could) her Benji, but her love of horses remained with her always.
Was sorry to come across this update as had read your earlier posts. RIP Poppy. Big hugs to you and your Mum and I hope her heart heals so she can continue with her riding and find another horse to love and enjoy again. And yes life just does seem to get more complicated at times the older you get.
