Hello, i am currently taking BTEC national certifcate in horse management.
i would be extremely greatful if you take the time to fill in the questionare below, (by copying and pasting). As for my course i need forms of primary information.

How is your horse kept, for example stabled or turned out?

Summer - 24/7 turnout.
Winter - out in day, in at night. Sometimes in 24/7 (yard rules if ground is wet)



What time in the day do you turn them out?
7.30


Do your horses get any exercised, for example been ridden or walked out?
yes, exercised 6 times a week.
If stables 24/7 in winter extra lunging and time in the play pen.



If your horse is been kept in its stable for whatever reason, how would you make sure that he/she gets exercised?
additional lunging and turnout in play pen alongside normal exercise.


Do you leave them out over night?
Yes, in summer


Is there a reason why you don’t turn them out?
Turnout decided by yard manger in winter

If your horse is been kept in its stable for whatever reason, how would you make sure that he/she gets exercised? Walked out in morning and ridden in the afternoon.


Do you leave them out over night?Only in the summer when there are loads of flies around.

Summer: Stabled at night, out in the day
Winter: Out if weather is okay, in if bad as otherwise he brings himself in!

What time in the day do you turn them out?
8am most days, would be earlier if I could drive. Also depends if I ride in the morning or afternoon.


Do your horses get any exercised, for example been ridden or walked out?
Usually at least 1hr a day, schooling/jumping, long hacks with fast work, lunging or a combination of lunging & riding (in summer he's sometimes worked twice a day)

If your horse is been kept in its stable for whatever reason, how would you make sure that he/she gets exercised?
At the very least walking in hand twice a day, a long period of riding, or lunging once/twice a day.


Do you leave them out over night?
No, horse isn't particularly keen on being out to be honest.

Is there a reason why you don’t turn them out?
If the weather is very bad, for his own/others safety as he will jump out of his field.

Yes, as presumably its a sign of stress most probably. So I would consider 24/7 turnout, stable mirrors, stable toys etc.

Yes.

Have you ever considered any other forms of training methods, if so which types?
Have used join up, mostly to catch awkward horses, and other 'NH' methods which are mostly common sense. I have an interest in Philippe Karl's training methods for dressage.

Out 24/7 with access to stable, occasionally stabled overnight in winter.

Usually ridden daily unless lame/ill

If your horse is been kept in its stable for whatever reason, how would you make sure that he/she gets exercised?

Walking in hand/Lungeing/Ridden exercise


Do you leave them out over night?

Yes, unless severe weather

Is there a reason why you don’t turn them out?
Only extreme weather conditions/flooded paddock.

Yes, providing stable toys, mirrors, plenty of food sources and variety, companionship and lots of turnout if possible

Not really, good old fashioned common sense and patience has served me well.
