pork based dog food

Sorry to be really thick(!), just wondered why pork is not a constituent of dog/cat food as far as i know.
Just wondered, as it seems to be everywhere in the human diet if u choose to eat meat.

I feed raw pork to mine- think it is to do with parasites..... and them not being able to digest it as easily as other meat sources
 
Think it is to do with pork containing tapeworms (back in the day) although now I think most is safe. I wouldn't feed it to be safe.
 
Pork is fine in fact because it so seldom found in commercial feeds it is what I often suggest if an exclusion diet is needed.
The reason for not feeding pork to dogs was Trichinosis - a type of roundworm but this is destroyed by freezing or cooking so pork that has been frozen and /or cooked is safe for dogs.
 
Thanks. I guessed it was something to do with a worm of some type! I'll continue with the pigs ears and cold sausages then........
