Hello,

I wanted to post this to see if there was any idea's any one had as to how to help your pony loose weight. My pony seems to have really plumped out since summer began and I ride him every day bare one a week but I cant seem to get the weight off.

I wouldnt say he was unfit though because he still manages to do the same amount of work as he was when he was thinner. He is a cob and I dont stable him over night ( he isnt overly fond of it :S hehe ) He is my first pony so im not too sure of the best ways to help him so I wanted to ask

Is he on any feed/hay or just grass? If he is on anything else, cut it out.
You could also use a grazing muzzle to restrict the amount of grass he can get, but some ponies are able to get them off. Depending on how overweight he is, restricted grazing may be a good idea.

what does he eat while he's in? I'd recomend you soak any hay for at least 12 hours and bed hi mon shavings otherwise he'll eat his bed!

If you are able to you could always make him a small padock to turn out in which he could eat down virtually bare to restrict his grazing as an alternative to a grazing muzzle

Hello, well when I do keep him in for a while he just has some hay, and I agree with the eating the bedding he has tried it hehe but he seems to have given up with that now.

Unfortunetly I cant restrict his grazing but at the moment they are all in one paddock and there is not lots of grass ( there was lots in the extra paddock they had open which was bad)

Thank you for your advice I will give it a shot, also he seems to bloat a bit after being out but once he has come in seems to *loose* a lot of the bloating, could this be because of binjing? (spelling?) Thanks
