I want a portable mounting block for the horsebox. At the moment I use a step (you know the type you can put your grooming kit in), but I really want something higher, really a good couple of feet at least.

Any ideas? Anyone use a step ladder?

Thanks!

I have 3 beer crates stacked on top of each other, fastened with grip ties so they dont come apart when carrying or getting on them. Everyone out hunting laughed when I first got them out of the lorry saying why dont you stand on the ramp. But my horse wont stand next to the ramp safely but stands dead still next to the crates. I leave the crates in the lorry all the time I also have some I use at home much easir than trying to line your horse up at permanent mounting block you can move the crates to where you want them.

It is my ambition in life to invent a portable, fold up, SAFE mounting block. I had two I found on a salvage yard (do you have those here?) that fit the bill other than the folding bit and I am cursing that I didn't find a way to bring them with me, or at least take one apart so I'd have a template.

In the mean time, I'll keep thinking and sketching . . .

I too use the Ikea steps, although my Mum's Clydesdale has become rather partial to eating them :-(
I qualified for the SEIB XC finals a couple of years ago, and when we went to the finals I realised I had no way of getting on to my 17.2hh TB (who is very fidgety, especially at events). I decided to use a large plastic storage box. Stood on it, and put one foot into the stirrup. My other foot broke through the box and, at the sound of it, my horse started to bolt. I had one foot in the stirrup, one with a huge plastic box stuck to it, one idiot horse, and two hysterical friends who couldn't move to help me because they were laughing too hard.
Buy the Ikea steps, don't let this shame happen to you :-)
