Hello everyone,

I am currently putting my saddle loose in the back of my commercial isuzu trooper (on a load of coats!) and was wondering if anyone had any ideas about or is currently using a portable saddle stand that will stay upright while driving but doesn't have to be fixed permanently to anything. Long shot but thought it was worth asking!

Cheers x.

I know exactly what you are after, our local saddlery sells them, I want one for the same purpose - It's a triangular shape, with a rounded top for your saddle to sit on and brushes and crap can go in the middle bit.
i'll try and find a picture.

I've got a purple thing which I think is called a Saddle Mate. I got it from the local tack shop and it is really useful. Could double up as a bed for a cat or v small dog as well if you haven't got any brushes etc in middle. Well, my cats all clamber into it and go to sleep!

Gosh, that's not a very well designed web site! I would be a bit embarassed if I'd designed that. It is a really useful piece of kit though.

I agree, terrible website!!. I have been eyeing one up for a while in our local saddlery.

finellaglen - Do you find it saves more space than it takes up. I don't have a lot of boot space and usually sit the saddle on it's pommel on a rug or something in the corner and load lots of crap in and around it. I know it's not ideal, but i have a little boot in the swb 4x4. Only needed for going to shows.

Is this what you meant DawnF?

Thanks everyone! Really appreciate your response' and have just bought the derby house saddle tramp one (thanks Castlemouse). My trooper is a commercial one (no back seats just ply woodlined on the base) so have loads of room. I didn't go for the saddle mate as I'm not sure if it would be tall enough which would mean the saddle flaps would have to curl out so for me personally it's not ideal but it does look handy though. Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I knew I could count on you! xxx.

ongo247 - I have a commercial vehicle like DawnF so there is plenty of space and I could probably fit in 6 Saddlemates! I think it does take up a fair bit of room but you can get some of your grooming kit etc underneath the saddle rather than packing it around in the boot.

I think I shall go for it, just need to make sure my saddle fits without the flaps trailing. - that for the useful thread/advice.
