Portable XC fence question

My LOVELY, totally non horsey OH has started to make me some XC fences. I have drawn diagrams, and he has been very good at copying!! He has claimed that hell would have to freeze over before he would ever consider jumping them mind. lol
The question is, as these are currently portable fences, I have to stake them into the ground - right?? So, what do I use to do this, and where do I get them from?? How many stakes per jump??
These will be used by myself only, BUT I have no problems putting them out in the fields when I know the hunt is coming, so they can have the option of jumping them too. Does this mean that they have to be inspected or are there laws regarding insurance for it??

Some people use sand bags.

I would speak to the hunt before you let them go over the fences. Its really nice of you to let them, but find out if the hunt has insurance that would cover you. (We only let people on RC/PC courses use ours because otherwise we would need insurance). Its a shame the way that the world has gone.
 
spirafix are the ones B.E. uses, and they do different lengths depending on the soil type.
you have to fix the leading edge, or the leading corners, of whichever direction you're jumping from, so if it's jumpable both ways it will need 4 stakes or spirafixes. certain profiles are more tip-uppable that others... the longer the base (front to back) the more stable it should be...

I will research into spirafix watsits, and shop for a bargain hopefully. I am aiming that all the homemade OH jumps can be jumped from both sides, so I can see the price of those stakes going up!
There will be a few perminant fences around the farm to, so come next year I may have a course which would be lovely!!

Just out of curiousity, is there a minimum height that stakes have to/should be used? If I build a potentially small fence of say 2'3'' and under, does the same rules apply??
 
tbh i think all solid fences should be anchored. a row of oil-barrels on their sides caused a full rotational fall which resulted in a lawsuit, it was reported in H&H a few months ago. Anything above horse's (or pony's) knee height should be anchored imho. the consequences can be too terrible for words... one rider fatality in the U.K. happened at a very small fence. :( :( :(
