Just wondering does anyone else still use these? Most people now seem to use the new xc style boots like NEW and Prolite, but I went back to using the porter protectors last year (havn't done much xc this year as everythings been cancelled!) as I find that they give the best protection and support. I use them under exercise bandages (or elastoplast for greater security) and insulating tape. Am I the only one who's still old fashioned!?

Can you trim porter protectors?
Just wondering as my boy has a lump on his fetlock joint (not painful) and it prevents hind boots from fitting properly. If i could trim something to fit that would be great, dont want another lump from his legs not being protected!!

I still use them, I bandage over with exercise bandages and then tape over the ties. And yes they can be trimmed, when I bought mine they had a little diagram in about how trim them. I also wash mine in the machine. They do make em look a bit 'robohorse' though

pity more people arent still using them IMO. yes sometimes they are a little awkward to trim to size and using vetrap over the top is expensive tho the best, but any idoit can be taught to put them on, they are made of the high impact expanded plastic that is used in car doors and frames to proctect soft humans and because of that nearly impossible to do up too tight. I used them with a US style racing run down underneath if i needed to prevent a rub but now events are short format this hasnt been an issue cos the boots not on that long.

I'm not the only one then! They can be trimmed to fit and then mould to the horses leg so give a really good fit. I agree they give a lot more protection than most of the boots I've seen. I use vetwrap for more security especially if it's a long course or very muddy and lots of water as exercise bandages get soaked pretty quickly!

You can definitely trim to size - which is handy if you horse has a lot of bone, but short legs!

I also have a set of 4 porter boots sitting in my tack room looking for a new home (I show jump, so don't want porter protection from the poles!!)
