Hi all

Taking my first look at this season and have not been to Portman since it moved, does anyone know what the novice track has in it?

Also looking for ones early season (Mar, Apr and May) without coffins?

Thanks in advance

last year first 7 fences were really nice (pre-novicey) then quite a decent corner, then a step down to a rail road crossing thingy... a few more normal not that inspirational fences that you would find in a pre novice... the water caused a few problems, rolltop-land-splash-3strides-out-one stride- skinny rolltop... for some reason i saw several runouts? and the last two\three fences were more novices... bigger table type fences and a double of angled houses (although numbered seperately)

It was quite a nice first time novice course... but the ground was a bit on the hard side and the show jumping was VERY up to height IMO

hope that helps

its a very straight forward novice xc- dont think theres any ditches! The ground was very bad there last year ( i withdrew mine after sj) - i dont think they do anything to the ground there before hand which is a shame.

Sorry slightly off topic but is your horse not good with coffins? I only ask because mine is fab cross country but is really not cofident with coffins especially the more spooky ones. Once went schooling and it took me at least 6 attempts to get over just the first element.
Im not sure what to do apart from keep practising over them, has anything helped you?

Hi

Not sure if its her or me but I can't get past the Tweseldown novice coffin where the ground drops away after the first element. Every time I have been there schooling its closed off. Does not mind ditches like the ditch hedge at BCA or trakners just these bleedin coffins with drop down.

Had lesson at Boomerang and he said a lot of it was her conformation, long neck and that she finds it hard

said I needed to really get her together very very bouncy more than normal with huge amount of leg

Going to go to Twes again and hope its open and take my instructor and if I can't hopefully he can

It's very straightforward. The ground was firm, but it wasn't rutted, and horses were leaving hoofprints in the ground. I didn't think the show-jumping was that big, and it was a nice ring. South of England's quite nice, it has one but it's not a nasty coffin.

Well based on what I can remember! Goring doesn't have one, Mattingley does and it's a stiff one but think it has an alternative, Great Tew doesn't, Smith's Lawn does - it's early in the course off a sharp turn but is pretty flat, Firle has a nasty one going from light to dark with a downhill and running, noisy water in the ditch but had a very long alternative which let you avoid it completely. Those are the ones I did last season, well Goring was the year before.

Thanks, I did Firle year before last but could not work out the alt route ? and did get over for just one stop, don't mind the Smiths one as its flat, have to pick the earlier ones and get as much schooling in as possible.
