thanks xx

I second that regarding your toes pointing out. From a purely practical point of view, it ruddy hurts if you manage to catch them on the wings of the jump. Mind you, it did cure me of the problem (after hopping around with a sprained anckle for two weeks :p)

hey not bad at all!!

like others say your toes stick out too much. maybe shorten stirrups a few holes too, keeping the ankle bone hip bone alinement's

the way to cure this I found out after trying for years without success is to turn your thigh while sitting still, then in tro,t in the rise you turn your heals out turning thighs in, every time you rise. then do the same when seated in canter. Imagine those jodpurs with the different coloured but and inner legs, this is where you should be in contact with the saddle :D

well done your doing really well :D

thanks for the advice?! how do i not point my toes out hahaha???

and thanks he is very pretty good jumper too :) hes only started jumping in may aswell so we are learning together :)

any tips for cantering jumps we both seem to strugle with the take off and he always takes off early and takes the jump like a spread.. so this unbalences me because he takes of early so i have a rubbish position and pull on his mouth some times or i over fold and dont sit up quick enough after the jump because he jumped it like spread... only does this in canter in trott he jumps up and over and takes off at the right time

xx

re toes, read above for my other post

start with random poles on the floor and canter over them. If you do the things I said in other post that will help you be more secure

also try a strap between the Drings on your saddle and hook your thumb thro it as you come into the jump. IF you need to push your hands forward so you don't catch him in the mouth as if it keeps happening he will start and stop at the jumps.

Shortening the stirrups at least 2 holes will help you stay with him over a fence. remember your butt is supposed to go backwards slightly too, this will stop you being too far forward:D

From your position, like the others, your feet are pointing too much in the incide (bad habits that lot of riders got:rolleyes:) And I think your stirups are to long too(a bit shorter would be perfect)
And I accually recommend hands down on the neck to come along with the movement of the horse when he jumps (easier for him) and if he stop, you have less chance to fell.

Thanka for tje replys ill.try the hand up hick neck as i LReady have a strap nd hate it lol ill.try and fix the toes haha and not so.sure on the stirrups bevause instructor says.sshorr enough for up.to a meter anymore and put them up a whole! ill let u know hw i gt on xxxxx

tanks for the replys!

iv not much improved on the toes out to be honest! although i have shortend my stirrups and i seem to go over the jumps more smoothly now... hand are getting better but toes are worse the shorter my stirrups get!
not over the small jumps but over the bigger ones... i dont feel less sterdy in fast with my toes out (not that i notice there out when im jumping) i feel fine and safe :)

any more tips or is it purley it looks neater to have toes in?

tips welcome :)

Try strengthening your lower leg while riding on the flat. Each schooling session try to ride 2 circuits in walk, trot and canter on each rein in a 2 point position - so in your jumping position. May help strenghten that feeling of getting the weight down and toes forward. Plus if you're riding thinking "toes forward toes forward" constantly on the flat it may come easier while goiong over the jump!
