positive spin on the weather...

Just finished tucking up mine for the night and it was still properly light at 4.30 pm! No mud to brush off, no pressures to keep horses fit as nothing to take them too, and mine who hunt weekly getting a well earned holiday.
Also, just thinking how much grass we will have when it thaws, as no horse has been able to get through to it either to graze, or churn up the ground, the since before Xmas.
Off to put on my slippers, light the log burner and cook roast beef for supper......heaven!

Lol, it is nice to be able to see what you are doing, will grant you that one.

Another benefit was my 8 mile walk to the yard and back, feel like I've been in the gym all day! My horse has been on holiday since November - her first break in 5 years,

so I'm not too frustrated at not being able to ride. It's not all bad.

Not convinced on the grass front though - I think our fields will be a big boggy mess when it melts.

We are lucky as we have hill grazing and normally when the snow thaws, the water just drains straight off.....

The only positive I can really think of is that this forum has been inundated with wonderful photos of horses and dogs (and some cats) in the snow.
I have adored seeing all the pics of happy animals playing in the snow.
Thank you to everyone who has posted their photos. They have really made me smile.

I had to use walking poles to get up the hill without going A over T - my arms are aching like anything now

Will have to do the same again tomorrow no doubt.

Our fields are on the side of a hill but weirdly they seem to retain water. Must have some sort of physics/gravity-defying soil!

See, another positive - weight loss and muscle gain!!! And just to make you jealous Milliepops, the only mud we have in a 4 acre field is a 10ft area around the gateway - the rest stays bone dry...

The positive thing about any sort of weather is that it WILL end! Eventually.

Then....when it all happens again next year

you will have all this experience under your belt and lunge on a straw ring, pull hay, water and feeds on sleds instead of struggling to push barrows, have some ice salt stockpiled etc, etc and you'll all just shrug and get on with it

The last time I rode I cleaned my tack, so it hasnt needed doing for weeks and is lovely and clean when I can ride again!

Upside = less expense as sweet feed has been cut/stopped if horses are out of work or in.

Downside = feeding more hay/using more bedding
