Bane went lame a couple of weeks again on left fore - vet came out and suspected corn and bruising. Was in on box rest for 5 days but was still lame. Farrier came out and had a good dig around the foot and it appeared that an abscess was forming. Whipped shoe off and after poulticing and another 5 days box rest all appeared well. He went back out in the field on a Wednesday but he got in a fight however and came in with a deep kick on his right hind. Was sound but got a bit hot and swollen over night so put him on antibiotics with turnout and light walking. He was hopping lame on the back leg on the Saturday so had another vet visit who said is probably deep bruising but worse case would be a stress fracture - he was also a bit sore on his right fore but that was put down to stiffness and overcompensation due to injuries on other diagonal pair.

10 days of bute and 5 days of antibiotics later (and 5 days of in hand walking) I trot him to find he is hopping lame on his right fore

Vet just been out and he can't find any swelling, heat etc. He has an increased digital pulse so suspects any damage is below the fetlock. Bane has now got to have another 5 days total box rest on bute and if still not sound he will then have to go up for x-rays and nerve blocks.

I am worried 3 years ago he fractured his pedal bone on his right fore and vet said could possibly be arthritic changes/extra bone growth pressing on a nerve or joint.
Am just sooo fed up - was hoping to go to the EHOA clinic in Ely and had just registered BSJA and was wanting to start XC training and it just seems like it is never going to happen. Everytime I think I've fixed it he does something else.

I know this wont make you feel any better as it didnt ever me! But we all go through it and that is horses I think they puposely do this to test our sanity!

Fingers crossed its nothing to serious and nothing to do with the pedal bone fracture before

(((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Your not alone -I feel the same way .Bought my horse 2 years ago he did his ligament the first year than bruised his cannon bone straight after his cannon bone he did a mild tear in his tendon. He has also had bad overreach injuries and been lame from being kicked. We are now on box rest for surgery for hock fusion sometimes I feel like its never going to end.Every year I say xc and shows at the end of the season .
Trouble is you get so attached and just cant give up on them.Try and keep optimistic I know how frustrated you feel my horse is only 6 and everytime I start his education again we have another setback.
Maybe we can share cookies and over a good bottle of gin.
Keep smiling!!!!!!
