So first off this is not about my horse. As a novice horse owner I am posing the question to gain a bit of knowledge hopefully.
Brought friends horse in today, looked lame so asked more experienced people in the yard to help me check. Horse very lame in trot (not lame in walk) and a lot of heat in near fore. He was shod yesterday after pulling a shoe last week. Experienced people at yard suggested possible abscess. Told horses owner via text. She came to check horse after I'd gone and has hibi scrubbed and poulticed. However she isn't in a rush to remove the shoe? I've been looking about on HHO old threads and on the internet and it seems to be that removal of the shoe is the first thing to do? just wondering if you would leave a shoe on whilst waiting to see if an abscess appears?
Thanks for reading (I can never make my posts short!)

Thanks for the reply. My first experience of a 'possible' abscess so just trying to soak up as much knowledge as possible without annoying everyone on the yard!

Sorry I don't think I was clear in my original post. I don't think she is planning on immediately getting the farrier in. This is pure speculation on my part but when I offered to be around tomorrow (she's working and I'm not) she said she wasn't going to take the shoe off. This is what has confused me, can you treat an abscess with a shoe on? Doesn't seem right to me so thought I'd ask!

I would take the shoe off for an abscess anyway. In this case however, as a abscess hasn't been diagnosed I would want the shoe off even more as it could be nail bind causing the lameness.
