A horse owner spotted people in her field in Haslingfield, South Cambridgeshire, and on closer inspection the horses were found to have had their tails plaited. The thinking is that the horses were singled out for theft, and the plaiting is some kind of signal or identification.

Better to be wise before the event.

Further to my first email.................

it was sent by Becca Follenfant at Cambs Police to Gamlingay Neighbourhood Team. fraid there is no info about the horse owner. its dated 31 Aug and reads as follows:

On Tuesday an incident of suspicious activity was reported to us via a horse owner in Haslingfield. During the hours of 11:00 and 15:00 the field was visited by unknown persons in a 4x4. When the informant returned to her field, her horses tails had been plaited. According to the informant the plain in the tail acts as a mark and signifies that the horse is to be stolen. We have been informed that there are some horse sales in the near future and it may be in aid of these sales. Please be vigilant and report all suspicious incidents. Furthermore help one and another and inform all horse owners of possible incidents.
