I emailed a request about him. Isn't he adorable?

"Max is a two-year-old, extremely gentle, affectionate, totally housebroken and trained, Chow/Finnish Spitz mix dog who came into the city shelter as a "stray." Max is GOOD WITH CATS, easy to walk, neutered, 41lbs, and up to date on shots. Very good looking, social and well behaved dog! Currently Max is in a foster home with three cats and is doing very well. If interested in this sweet and very handsome dog, please call us at...... Max is a sweetie!"

Well, Max proved to be such a wonderful dog that his foster parents adopted him!

So, we have found another dog and will, touch wood, be putting an application in on him today. I don't want to say too much (and jinx myself again!) but he is an 18-months-old Golden Retriever/Spaniel mix (hence the ears; hence the docked tail, I suppose). Apparently, he is laid-back, great with small kids, dogs of all sizes, and is an all-round sweetie. He's only 36lbs, too

We have been approved and Moises (new name, Eli

) will be coming home to us on the 4th September. Here's the rub: he's coming from Ecuador! While Stray from the Heart is Manhattan-based, they have a sister organisation there. As with all dogs from Ecuador, we will be "foster parents" initially, with our status changing to adopters after two months.

He has passed all his behavioural tests with flying colours and is a real sweetie, apparently.

I am so, so excited.

Craziest thing of all? People over here are trying to flog Spaniel/Golden Retriever Mixes for $1000+

while our little boy is effectively going to be free (charitable donations in the US are tax deductible).
