possible colic?

right, start from the beginning:
mum let tara out in the field. she rolled, got up, ran round in a circle and rolled again. unusual behaviour for a horse that very rarely rolls alltogether. She then violently kicks/bites at her tummy- but then tucks into her grass. go over and check her over to see if a fly/insect bothering her- nothing. check her tummy- no bites visible. Me, mum and dad then start watching her for 10 minutes- she is tucking into her grass, but swishing her tail alot, and every 30 seconds or so has a little kick/bite. so we bring her in and get our next door neighbour (who has experience with colic) to have a look. She stands in the stable and has a few kicks, but then stands normally, alert to her surroundings, has a "twinkle" in her eye still. Still swishing tail slightly but not kicking/biting. keep an eye on her, and she seems fine, if not a little agitated. she has a poo too. have been checking her every 10 minutes or so. occasionally she has a bite at her tummy, but nothing serious, and is tucking into her haynet.

so, what do we do now? keep an eye on her? call the vet?

It sounds to me like a low grade colic/belly ache and I would just keep an eye on her. If after 20 mins she get any worse, call the vet. Has she recently been introduced to better grazing?

DO NOT LET HER ROLL, ok to lie down, could walk her around or lunge can help, BUT IMO SPEAK TO VET sooner than later

My mare shows colicy syptoms similar to what you are describing when 1st coming into season, i would call the vet and just ask there advice, even if they just tell you to watch at least they will be aware you may need them to visit.
With regards to the rolling i know it is contraversial but i have been told if they are more comfortable laying down let them.

Echo Llwyncwn, hope shes feeling a bit more comfortable now. Best to keep checking her this evening, if her symptoms reoccur call the vet out. With all this rain and warm weather, shes probrably a bit gassy!!
