Thought I would circulate.. On Sunday 22 sept I went to check on our pony Smartie in his field and saw someone in the field with him!
Smartie is very nervous of people he doesn't know so I was v surprised he was letting the guy stroke him!!
I also saw a car in the driveway by his field, ( we are on a private estate so there should be no strange cars about) as i approached the guy he got out the field and lent on the post.
I noted there was 3 other guys in the car , I asked him what he was doing in the field with the horses, he said taking photos of the beautiful scenery !
I asked him to leave and after sitting in the car with the others for a couple of mins they did!
They were v suspect.. 4 Asian men all aged about 25 to 35
There were in a silvery/ light blue peaugot 206 reg no GJ04 WLK
I have reported to police
Please keep your eyes peeled.
I am in Much Hadham in Hertfordshire
I am worried sick !!
What makes it even worse is I had to have my beautiful mare Tara pts on Friday and am so upset ! I couldn't bear the thought of losing our little Smartie..

They are more likely to be after rugs or seeing if there is a tackroom on the premises if thats any consolation

Well done on being quick thinking enough to get the car reg

Well done getting the reg - hopefully they wont return after seeing you and knowing you have a good chance of being able to give descriptions of them and their vehicle . Very sorry to hear about your mare x

So sorry for your loss, but don't worry about Smartie.

I know its unsettling when a stranger goes into your horses field, but it doesn't mean they were horse thieves. Even a small pony is a bit difficult to squash into a Peugot 206. A lot of people don't often get the chance to get close to ponies or cattle and are simply curious.

With so many equines being offered for free loan or free to a good home, you do have to wonder why anyone in their right mind would even contemplate the risks of stealing one. Hopefully it was as dogatemysalad says

Hi yes there r
Another 5
He is normally in a little starvation paddock and in at nite as he a bit fat ... But mega handsome : )
but as sun was out and last wam w/eI thought I'd give him a little treat !!
But he is in at night now
We r moving yards this w/e as the estate has been sold ; (
But now I am feeling glad that we r going as the place we r going to has a house on the entrance : )
Just think these guys were def clocking him and maybe others
I think they gave treats as he was with the guy and he is normally really nervous of people he doesn't no!!

My OH is an artist. He takes photos to work from all the time when he's out, and thinks nothing of trespassing in order to do so. :mad3: It might be the right abgle to snap beautiful countryside, a particular clump of trees (which look nothing special to anyone else), the sky or the light, but he'll be there photographing it. And if he met a horse, he'd give it a mint if he had one.

It's not good behaviour (OH is non-horsey and takes no notice of me) but not that unusaul for people to walk into fields to take photographs. I think it's much more likely to be that than attempted theft tbh.

I'm very sorry for your loss, and understand how you might be feeling extra protective of your boy. :(

Goodness, that's a little extreme isn't it? Not all Asian men want to hurt animals.

OP, I am sorry about your mare, reporting this incident is the right thing even though it is quite possibly nothing to worry about.

No of course not all but a lot do you only have to look at dog fighting figures .The rescue I affiliate to will tell you the numbers confiscated by police .How many people of Asian origin do you see owning animals as pets.

I'd be very very panicked if I saw people doing what this lady saw and would move the pony .

How ridiculous you sound. Someone comes into a field and takes a photograph, and you move your pony because of the colour of the person's skin?

Words fail me. I'm leaving this thread because this sort of attitude makes me very angry.

What the hell ?? ANYWAY :0 .... Good luck with the move op ..I have a very good friend in Hunsdon if u want a nice private stable for smartie ;)

Please don't think I was implying you were racist! I wasn't commenting on what you'd posted, I understand your concern.

It was the disgraceful attitude of BBH I was responding to, if you look at my posts.

FionaM12 wasnt calling you racist!!

Hopefully this incident is nothing to worry about but it is good to be vigilant and to report this to you local police station and nearest Horsewatch Group.

It may be an idea if you and a couple of adults can also drive by together (always take a mobile phone) and check on the field/place at unexpected times if possible that can help lesson the worry and show the place is being monitored at regular and irregular times, before you may be moving.

Just googled the number plate and this incident came up, although it is is Warwickshire area and slightly different end of number plate and different model car but still a silver car - probably not linked but a few similarities.

Very sorry for the loss of your pony and do hope everything is ok with this incident happening.

Sorry to hear about your horse i also had one of mine pts on friday so know how your feeling, like others have said they would proberbly be more interested in any tack etc than the horses but still horrible to see a stranger in with your horses no matter what they are doing!
Just because they like taking pictures of the countryside doesnt take away from the fact they are tresspassing on someone elses land.
Try not to worry im sure the fact they saw you checking on them was enough to put them off coming back.

Thanks all x
Was just worried about our pony smartie!!
Am not racist and think this thread has become crazy!!
The guys were Asian !!
And in his field with him!
I was v worried !
Like I said I was just describing them!
