HOT OFF THE PRESS FROM DEFRA REGARDING HEATHROW:
IMPLICATIONS FOR IMPORTERS:
3. Today Defra notified the operators of the BA inspection centre of our
intention to suspend the facility for NHC products with effect from 25 July.
As this is the only inspection centre approved for NHC products at
Heathrow, this means that imports, transits and transhipments of NHC
goods will not be permitted through Heathrow Airport from that date.
4. The BA inspection centre and EuroBIP inspection centre may still handle
human consumption products. The ARC remains approved for live
animals. Many other ports and airports in the UK and the rest of Europe
are able inspect NHC products. These are listed in Commission Decision
2007/276/EC. If the products have been checked at another BIP prior to
landing at Heathrow the consignment may be accepted.
5. The products effected by the suspension are semen, embryos and ova
and animal by-products covered by Regulation 1774/2002 (including
intern'tediate products).
