My horse has been on a course of adequan. Before the course started we moved yards and he was put next to a playful gelding. His rug buckle went missing and we thought they had been playing roughly and the swelling on his neck was a bite. The vet had a look yesterday but as the neck is still hot and swollen we are begining to think that the swelling might be related to his injections and nothing to do with a bite.Im waiting for the vet to phone back with his opinion, I have left a message on his phone.Has anyone experienced this and what would the treatment be.

Mine often has swelling after injections. Don't think it's infection with her - more just bruising and tenderness associated with having had a needle pierce the skin. She's had this more in her neck where I imagine there's less 'room' for any inflammation. She has it less often in her chest but it has happened before here with a vaccination.

She also had the Adequan injections (7 over the course of a month) and we always put these in the fleshy bit of her chest. She sometimes had a small lump which was almost under the skin but nothing too bad.

I'd say it depends how long the lump has been there and whether it has changed/increased in size etc. But your vet will be the best judge.

Hi we are on number 6 of 7, we remember doing it twice in one week on same spot by mistake.Hes having injections every 3 to 4 days. There is a fluid sack underneath the neck maybe where the extra fluid has drained.Vet had a feel when I mentioned it and didnt think it was a kick he would have found a foreign body, we assumed it was bite but it was nearly a week ago when they messed around and its worse than before. It just occured to us that the injection could have caused the problem .

Ill have another look tonight and wash with hibiscrub.Only one more to go out of block of 7 injections.I have just been told that chestnuts are thinner skinned and more reactive to things like this ,Dont know if thats rumour or fact.
Lump is getting bigger like a haematoma(SP) .Hope the vet rings later. Thanks for your help

Huge improvement today spoke to vet last night and it appears he has reaction and bruises easily.Yo daughter has been given him his injections and she is a shorty like me so possibly the injections should have been made a bit higher up his neck.He has lump rather than huge swelling and heat has gone he looked like a camel with a slipped hump. lol
After all your problems didnt want to bother you with another one of his many incidents .hny j x
Thanks for the email and pic lovely photo
