Morning all,

I read the thread about disliking your horse's name and it got me thinking - could I change his name? It's currently 'Pinto' and I don't like it. I've got used to it, but I don't like it any more than I did originally. I've currently got the following names bobbing around in my mind as possibilities - but would welcome suggestions!
A little about his personality too - cheeky, gentle, curious, very clever, quite brave.

Badger - Magpie (though I think this is a mare's name) - Humbug (current favourite but no one else seems to like it!).

Not superstitious so no qualms about changing his name - but it needs to be right.

I like Patch, Jigsaw, Toffee and Tiggy.

All my human named horses tend to degenerate into pet names. Lol
I have an Eric called Oik
Archie called baldy biscuit
Jodie called Bowby
And a Jenna called Gingin or bubba

Yes I know I'm odd ! Lol

Very true. Hubby isn't a helper (though he will be the designated driver when I have a trailer and we get out and about). Yeah I like the idea of shortened to Bugsy or Bug, its a softer name I think than 'Pinto'.

Haha love the name! Yes George very common. My pony's registered name is 'Northern Soul'. Quite inoffensive so I will stick with that.

Is that a beauty spot above his nostril? Monroe! Is that too human? Jester?

We had a Jigsaw once and I knew a Badger too - he was one of the most lovely, gentle hosses .

Haha Monroe suggests he is a gentleman (which he isn't just yet and I'm not sure he ever will be lol). I did consider Jester but I have already used it for another animal of mine. Plus it's a bit of a naughty name and I don't want to tempt fate!

Always one for unusual names so here you go:
-Lalit (means Handsome or Simple)
-Declan (means from the sea)
-Staccato (means bouncy)
-Neptune (God of the sea)
-Little Creek (from the movie Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron Herd)

Any update on a new name? :)

It's such a hard decision! Pony and I discussed it this weekend over a cup of tea and I still don't know! YO pointed out with 'Humbug' it may get shortened to '******' 🙈

I also feel a bit guilty about potentially changing his name 🤔😫

I knew a Humbug once, also a piebald but less cobby than yours. It suited him and if it got shortened at all it was usually to Bugs nothing too bad.

I think he looks like a Winston, but that's no good for you!

I like Winston but I know lots of animals called Winston already (and friend who's just lost her horse was a Winston :( ).

I would shorten 'humbug' to 'bug' or 'bugsy' rather than the suggestion by YO, but I just don't know. His current name was given to him by his first owners, I don't know them so the guilt isn't from there. And I very much doubt it matters much to Pinto what his name is!

I hate human names too....mine came as Alfie but is now Ralph as a compromise lol :D
What about
Apache
Cree
Tonto
Scout
:)

Oooh I like Tonto and Scout - added to the list! I've been calling him my list of names and watching for some sort of reaction - a look or twitch of his ears. I'll try these later.

Tonto isn't a million miles away from his name at the moment either - and a nickname YO calls him 'Little Tonka' (usually when he's got his nose in something he shouldn't). Other nicknames include 'Pint Pot' and 'Pea'.

How old is he? And does he know his name if you call it to him? You could change it to something that sounds similar to Pinto when you say it like:

Cato
Frodo
Bilbo
Hero
Jingo
Solo
Tonto
Pongo
Pingu
Nero
Mojo

I like naming horses lol :-)

Thanks for the suggestions! I did consider 'Pongo' but I've decided to save it for a dog name. Bilbo is already on the list :) I like Solo - I'll add that to the possible.

He's 5, turning 6 in April next year :)
