Hi,
Family member interested in this fine beauty :) He wants to do mainly hacking, but also considering hunting and P2P :eek::eek:
Said filly is only 3 (still a filly, right??)
Person holding is 5'3'' = big filly!!
Filly has a nice temp, raced 3 times earlier this year, placed once, 5th twice in ''strong races''. Retired from racing due to 'sore shins' and she weaves.
What do you reckon??

nice! sweet looking face, she looks pretty huge but guess if she is a gents horse shouldn't matter... nice face feet look a little splayed but tbh cant see much as havent got my glasses on ;)

Personally I think she's a cracker! I'm not a TB 'person', owning a shire, but she is really striking and if I was looking for another (which I wish I was, but I'm not), would draw me away from the heavies to take a look at her!
Obviously needs to build up some muscle, but being 3, you would expect her to.
With the weaving - does she weave just in the stable or the field as well? Weaving in the stable wouldn't bother me (but bear in mind some yards won't take a weaver incase it "catches") but weaving in the field would.

She looks well put together, still quite croup high - I'd expect her to grow another couple of inches.

I guess it depends how competent your family member is - a 3yr old exracer will be quite a project and need schooling/reschooling even if just a hack.

Wow she's a big lass. She has presence doesn't she? She lacks topline. I like what I can see but I'm on my.phone so the picture is tiny!

Family member is well used to TB's, just not had one in the last 10 years! He used to hunt and p2p years ago, thinks he still can, although I am thinking hacking will be just fine for him! lol
This filly is quite well bred, was purchased as a potential broodmare last week for £8,500 but then declined the sale due to 'I didn't want a weaver', so breeder still has her.
She only weaves in her stable.

I wouldnt let weaving put you off, my TB did but now he's in a settled routine he's pretty much stopped :)

Use it to get some £ knocked off the price but dont miss out on a beauty like her because of it ;) :)

 how much do they want for her now?! I wouldn't pay that just for a 3 yo who didnt weave to eventually hack and hunt regardless of the breeding, that only really matters to me if I was looking to breed or wanted it for the competition prospect. she looks lovely though :)

I love her, I think she will make up to a cracking mare, but £8.500!

.

Just to warn you not to expect growth. Many racers are bred downhill, it can make them run faster. I once bought a 16 hh 3 yo of a similar stamp from the auctions hoping she would grow and level up, and she didn't. This one might, but do not buy her if you are depending on it.

If the person holding is 5ft 3, the filly looks a couple of inches bigger 16.2 max, not huge??

£8,500 for what you want to do? UNless your person is determined to win P2P races, then NEVER that price. She is only worth that if she breeds winning foals or is fast enough to win P2P. Your person can pop to Ascot or Doncaster and get a hobby P2P/hunt horse for around £1,000 at the moment.

ps "Sore shins" would normally get them rested, but with good form in strong races it would surely not normally get them completely retired? Has she actually got shin stress fractures? That might be a different kettle of fish.

Not to keen on her conformation, she is very long behind, and as a result rather bum high. She is very long bellied too so all in might be prone to weakness through her back, also is she behind at the knee? might just be me there though.

Knowing what ex-racers are selling for at the moment I wouldn't want to pay more than £1000 for her.

Depends what you want her for?? But I don't think she's worth £8,500 and I reckon previous poster is spot on with £1000 given that she's raced & is now retired.
Good points: Pretty good confirmation with neck set on quite well, reasonable girth, good angle of shoulder, doesn't look behind the knee to me,
Not so good points: Croup high (but that may change as she's ages), more muscle development at the bottom of the neck but to be expected, long backed and therefore, more prone to skeletal problems,
Other points to look out for: how does she stand - standing with front feet under the body can indicate heel/foot problems?
What are her feet like - TB's have notoriously flat feet/thin soles with poor internal arches which can lead to a lifetime of 'footiness'.
But, if you want to hack her these problems may not be an issue.
Best of luck.

loving the tattersalls pic lol she does look a nice sort. was this at the in training sale she was sold for 8500 she dont look like she had shoes on that's quite strange for that sale ? what lot number? or is she at december breeding sale on now? every one seems shocked at price but i'm afraid to say being a filly and if her breeding is good or are a nice sort the money is still there at tattersalls £8 500 is quite a cheap one  its not quite what is was a few years ago but the money is still there for the good ones

I have to agree with Santa paws
As worked with many racehorses in a stud farm we had a couple being returned from training with sore shins , the would be rested and returned later on to return to training
Never one of them was totally retired due to sore shins
Only retired due not being fast enough and not being placed if it is cause of sore shins which I would except
Isn't I would question it !!
Also for 8.500
It is rather steep for a filly that has been in training but really hasnt proved herself , inless she is really well breed , I wouldn't pay that you can get hell of alot cheaper for other young tbs come off the track
Nice mare tho !!
