Hello Ladies and Jellyspoons, :)

I haven't been on for a while! Hope your all well and ponies and hounds are all good?

I have a little question... my boy, Jaguar, 16h 15yr Old TB has recently produced a lump on the inside of his foreleg.

Now he is not lame nor sore with it, has no puncture wounds or heat... I suspect it is a splint and he loves to career arounds his field and what with the sudden hardening of the ground suspect a splint due to concussion..

However my question being is how should I proceed... he is always booted for work...

Now should I rest him? keep him in (not a nice idea - box walker if kept in!)

Bandage opposed to boot?

No ride? We only hack out or school on a soft surface.. we only walk/trot our on hacks.

Some advise would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance :) :)

If there is no heat or swelling and he is sound I would continue as normal but monitor it for swelling and heat. It could be he has had it longer then you thought as some horses don't go lame on splints! :)

if he's not lame or heat there I would go about your daily duties as normal, you could cold hose it..
My old lad developed one whilst at a equine college, he didn't ever suffer from lameness or anything I always had him booted up for any work I did with him, bandaged at night due to him swelling up in hinds but that was my choice.

He should be OK, is it small? if it grows then maybe contact your vet for advice, but to be fair they usually mean no harm to the horse.
just not good for showing now :(
