So my farrier thinks my mare has very mild thrush. I'm treating with good hoof.
Can people share their experiences and pictures of this condition please.
Photobucket won't play ball but click link underneath you'll see the picture
Can't see the picture, but if it is the same mare you thought was pregnant then her being overweight would suggest her diet hasn't been/is not quite right and so promotes the conditions thrush thrives on.
The only thing that has definitely worked on thrush for me is CleanTrax. It normally gets rid in one go (you need to take the shoes off), but is labour intensive. A good second best product I found is called PureGreen24 that you can get from amazon. Spray on cleaned and brushed (wire brush) out hooves twice a day.
Failing that, soak in Milton and keep a ready made bottle up for spraying.
If you get the diet right, the thrush either becomes very minimal or disappears completely.
This is only my experience with one of mine, when he looks like he has a bit of thrush it usually means he is getting too much grazing or the grass is too rich for him, I don't need to do too much to his feet just reduce the size of his turnout or bring in for a while and it just goes away, I spray it with something (Name escapes me) for about 3 days but I think that is more for me than him. I treat it as an early warning sign, it has never developed into thrush and only lasts a few days, I actually welcome seeing it, there are no pulses, no crest, no weight changes and absolutely nothing other than this to warn me that I need to act
This doesn't mean this is your horses problem but it is certainly is for one of mine
