Possible ulcers - not insured

Word of caution having bought a certain equine medicine over t'internet from Australia when it was banned here - received a rather frightening letter from the authorities stating that they were tracking people importing illegally and that I could be up for a very hefty fine.

Luckily it wasn't followed up but scared me enough to never be tempted to do it again.
 
Popsdosh the coating on so called human omeprazole is not gastro "resistant" nor should it be. You can dissolve the tablets in water and drink them...they still work! Omeprazole needs to work in the stomach, on the stomach lining. Please climb off your high horse and stop being so aggressive.
For what its worth the medical expert you are so sarcastic about is my husband. A surgeon. Who spends a lot of time chatting to the vet, who I believe may also be classed as a medical expert....

Mine is on Aloeride now, having been thru Abler, GastroGard & ranitidine. He is the happiest I've ever seen him. Still on his slow cycles though, & we're going to try KS xrays shortly. Gastrically, I would say he's good. Stopped biting & kicking, lost the haunted look, a lot more interactive. It is more natural too.

I am not going to argue with you as you obviously dont have a clue how omeprazole works .It is absorbed in the small intestine and then works systemically (it can be injected also) . It does NOT achieve its control by covering the stomach lining as other types of antacid medication do . Perhaps you should check out its mode of action with your 'medical friends 'before you rubbish other people who may also know what they are talking about. Why your at it ask them also why it is still POM in the majority of cases(only low dose is not) when the drug companies would be better off if it wasnt.

I think most people reading this who have been prescribed Omeprazole will be taking 'Gastro resistant capsules' I wonder why the doctors are prescribing them when they clearly should not be.

I was already aware of who your medical expert is.

Funny but I was at a vet talk about gastric ulcers last week and two things that might be of interest. I asked the question why can't we use human Omeprazole as we did for the dog, his answer was that it needed a special coating to be affective in horses and the second was that there are now other products with this drug in them on the market and they can be bought for under £100,

Yes you can get peptizole which works out about 30% cheaper to use
 
Oh dear oh dear...well you keep relying on Dr Google. Sadly self proclaimed internet expert syndrome rears its mistaken head once more. I can't be bothered and I'm going to use the UI function as the posts are just vile.

Good idea! Why do you assume you have the sole source of professional knowledge ,dont need google!!!
I really think you need to check what you are saying. Perhaps google may help!!
