Possibly a really stupid question....

Hacking Olive today was like riding an unexploded bomb. I was totally at ease with this (wouldn't have been able to say that 6 months ago). She didn't go anywhere but was reluctant to walk, wanted to trot as was really marching about and being much more upright, a bit spooky which is unusual. She was listening though... I think we have really bonded since I have been riding her a lot more and making real progress.

A few things have changed - she is being fed, 3 mugs of fast fibre per day with her supps in (this has been going on about a month), she has lost weight and is fitter, she is being ridden 6 times a week instead of 3/4, she isn't wearing her muzzle as there is less grass in the paddock since three have been out 24/7, she has had a full clip.

Do horses change when they have been clipped? Is she feeling better for the loss of her hair and is more peppy? (She used to get really hot and sweaty during work) Or am I being daft? I hadn't noticed that any of the other things had an effect on her you see but since being clipped she is really quite on her toes...

So, does clipping affect horses in this way?

Ah so I wasn't being a total moron! Perhaps I was a total moron for doubting that it would have an effect! It makes sense!

She is like a different horse than from this time 12 months ago. Don't get me wrong, I liked it when she was a big fat plod but I am having to up my game now and get used to the fitter, sporty version! Previously she had three gears, we have discovered at least a fourth and fifth in the last few months!
