Possibly weird question...

Here are the markings that Ned will have - copy/pasted from the winners description

A circle around the horse's eyes for alert vision and a keen sense of smell.
Hoofprints were drawn on the horses and stood for the number of horses captured in raids.
The horse's Battle Scars (always painted red) and the Pat Hand Print (left hand drawn on the horse's right hip) were the highest honors. The Pat Hand Print was always reserved exclusively for the horse who had brought his master back home from a dangerous mission unharmed. (yes I know I cheated on this one and put it on Ned's left hip)
 
Not sure if too late, but could you make your costume? Should cost you less than £16 in materials.

Am very jealous - wanted to make my haffy into an indian pony for the breed show, but lack of funds and excess of body fat put paid to that :D

This is it! I was a bit nervous about trying it, since I've heard some bad reviews, but I can honestly say that it's fab! I got £50 free from the bank, so I thought why not?

Anyway, now I've googled it, I can see why they've named it the Navajo bareback pad, it seems quite similar to some of their patterns :)

EDIT: Nugget - I'm awful at making clothes :P Drawing/painting is my thing XD
 
It is a fancy dress competition, I'm sorry but it's an area where people are expected to stereotype to a point, it's about having a good time and a laugh, not about ridiculing who you are dressing up as. Your intention is not disrespectful, that's clear for anyone to see!

Nah, hope you have a good time at the fancy dress show and I would say post some pictures, but I wouldn't want you to be subjected to all the "racist" comments again..haha.

Oh and as a fellow Scot living in England I also get fed up with all the stereotypical comments from people regarding kilts and haggis. My OH has stopped wearing his lovely kilt out to dances down here as he gets plagued by ladies constantly lifting up his kilt!!

If I got upset by it all and gave everyone who said anything a lecture on the cultural significance of the kilt in scottish heritage, and accused them of being racist, I don't think I would be very popular.

Hmm.. naaaaah :) I think the poster who highlighted the issues was right to - I also think the OP doesn't intend any insult, and took the comments on board - although I'm sorry she got upset about it :(

'PC gone mad' is a bit of a Daily Fail sweeping statement that often overrides perfectly reasonable reminders to check our behaviours and consider things from other people's perspectives. There's nothing wrong with that. The poster who raised the issue even explicitly SAID that they took no issue with the OP using the costume!

There's nothing wrong with asking people to think, and I don't think the OP should take it as a personal attack. You've already shown that you've put thought into it and don't intend it to be a caricature :)

Haha, I love your reason for editing XD I didn't realise until I had it changed that it might cause confusion for me and others :P Though, Nah stands for Ned, Annie, Holly.

Anyway, I honestly mean no offence and I love using stuff from other cultures (I have a Fu Dog shrine above my door. Also one of the beckoning cats you see in Asian take-aways etc) and I find the opportunity to dress up and try and be as accurate as possible really cool! I don't intend to be like "Hur hur, I'm one of them Indian folk lol! Look at my horsie and war paint!"
I only chose those first 2 dresses because I've used that site before and even though it ships from China, it's really fast and good quality! Cheap too! I wasn't trying to play "sexy india girl" (there's kids around! Icky!) I would have altered it to make it more appropriate.

I think in some ways, PC has gone a bit mad, but like you said, there's nothing wrong with thinking about what you're doing/saying.

I don't think you will be in the slightest bit offensive - second one - and I think you will look lovely and not really tarty when you are coupled with your lovely middle eastern looking camel/horse
 
I did a Red Indian a few years ago. Strip down the bridle to what is needed, go bareback, put warpaint on the horse. We went in as 'Running Deer' riding 'Dear to Run'. Mine costume was a hand done job. Came 2nd.
