every thing is possible
as I post in here the most I will post here (admin shift if needs be ) ...

But Im really starting to worry about Missys tendon .

As some of you may or may not know, she sprained (vets words) her tendon on monday . There is very slight swelling, cant really see it , I mean it doesnt stand out a mile but you can feel it , just along the back of the front leg along the tendon .

The vet has said box rest for 7-10 days and then walking her on hard ground after box rest is over . Shes on bute also .

On monday/tuesday she wasnt too bad , did bandage the 2 front legs up , but decided to take them off ( well missy helped with the decision as she had one of already ) .

Anyhoos her lameness has got alot worse .

I doubt its normal or maybe its a case of " it will get worse before it gets better " ??

Balmoral is less that 7 wks away , Is she gona be sound for balmoral ?? Anyone with any advice, experience on sprained tendons ??

Blossy sprained a tendon around 2 years ago now. She had 5 days solid box rest and her front legs were bandaged daily and redone at night. She was sound as a pound when she came off box rest. You need to leave the bandages on tho - just redo them twice a day (morning and night) and no walking at all, muck out whilst your horse is still in the stable.

Amy may shes still on bute yeah

P_G Foalie wont keep them on .... shes had one of them off and I mean ripped it to shreds .

Any ideas on how to keep them on her ?

Wonder if i could stick a dog collar on her ?? ( lampshade ) :P

didn't vets mention cold hosing, if me 20mins in morning and 20mins in eve
if she worst on bute i would phone vets and have a chat

and i personnel would forget about comp.......... get her right first then plan - sorry please let us know how it goes

She was cold hosed the time it happened and a few times after that until the heat went out of it ... but there isnt really any heat in it nor is there alot of swelling now , its just the lameness . Havent been out to her yet , going out as soon as the little one wakes .

Didnt see any point in cold hosing her if there wasnt any heat or really any swelling . its the lameness that she has .

As for balmoral , you really think I should call it off ? ... I mean obviously if shes lame she wont be going as its an inhand class ( shes a yearling) but Im hoping she would be sound within 2 wks at the most ?????

YES i would continue cold hosing it defo works, if she still lame there will be heat inside leg at site of damage. By reducing the heat/small swelling (which is inside leg which you can't feel or see, would only be able to see if you had scan) around tendon you allow better blood supply and quickier healing.
IMO i would defo keep cold hosing and bandages.
IMO if you rush tendons and pull back into work to quickly they will go bang!!, if you don't allow tendon to knit well, BUT it's a balancing act as you need to allow tendon to move to promote growth BUT NOT too much, key is controlled exercise.
I only say forget comp cos then you have removed the pressure for equation and then once you see improvement etc... you can make plans
BUT defo phone vet and have chat also have a think about getting scan as this will show you progress on tendon

If you're worried about it you should give the vet a ring and talk to him about it. I'd keep up with the cold hosing and bandages (try and get a bib for her or a cradle if she's chewing them off or paint them with cribox or something that she won't like the taste of). A clay like staysound might be good to help cool and tighten the leg. Might be an idea to get a scan of the leg just to see what the real damage is and put your mind at rest. If she's on bute she shouldn't be that sore on it but sprains can be quite painful and is natures way of making them rest the leg. I wouldn't call balmoral off yet, give her the 10 days box rest and then see how she is.

Thanks K_o .... Know it all makes perfect sense .

As she wont be doing anything strenous anyway , Il not pull out on balmoral just yet , I would say she is has ready as shes gona be ( practise wise) .

Its just depending on the tendon and lameness The vet will be coming out to vaccinate her a week or so before balmoral and will get a final vetting on the leg so therefor I will know either way . xx

P_G was thinking duck tape .

She had a neck cover and rug off, shes ripped to shreds a piece of gamgee and bandage, shes ate the top of a brush lol ... grrr shes a loveable nightmare .

Made up a fruit and veg string for her today , so should help with keeping her occupied ... Im wondering whether we should move her into a smaller stable ?? her stable is roughly 20x 12 . its a big stable

I don't know whether she will be sound for your show in 7 weeks time....however my experience of most tendon injuries is that they do seem to take a good couple of months to come right.

Over here we have a liniment made by Absorbine and it seems to work. I've used it on a couple of horses here and within a month or so the horse appeared to start to recover.

Sorry no help really as they are all different; but one thing I can say is that this doesn't generally heal up overnight unfortunately.

I know it doesnt heal up over night tia ( pity I couldnt have a magic wand :P ) ...

Its just so fustrating , the amount of work we have put into her AARRGGGHHHH !! .
