Hi,

My mare had bi-lateral hock arthrodesis 2 years ago in order to fuse her hock bones to counterract bog-spavin. She is now 100% sound, and is back to the same level of work as she was pre-lameness (which was only 2/10 in the first place). Now, I am thinking of selling her, as I am going to move to America next year.

She is a 14.2hh M/W Tovero mare, who has done lots of p/c and r/c, as well as Local shows, and jumps up to 3'6 ish. Very good to box/shoe/clip etc etc. May try to figure out how to post photos to show....

I was just wondering what people would think if they heard that a horse they were interested had undergone this...if it really is going to limit who takes her. I know that lots of competition horses have arthritis/joint problems, and they sell I guess.

I have been looking on various websites, and see her type, sound, for anwhere from 2500 - 4500. She would be going with all tack and very full wardrobe (which I figure would be at least an extra 750!).

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, and I will try to put up some photos.

Because your pony has had surgery, that hock will always be excluded by any insurance company. It would also be viewed as highly suspicious by most people. If she was vetted, do you believe the hock will pass a flexion test, otherwise she may fail a vetting.

These things mean that her re-sale value is quite low.

You don't say how old the mare is, or if she has pedigree breeding papers. Unless she had an outstanding Affiliated competition record. I would say you would be lucky to get £2000 for her.
