Post colic surgery incisional hernia?

Sorry no photos but my horse that recovered from colic surgery was left with a small hernia about 2-3 cms it never caused a problem, he came back to a full working life.

It was not quite so far back but similar in size/shape.
If you press firmly can you feel your finger go in further than you would expect in the middle of it, is it in the site of the incision made for the op? If so I would not worry too much, how long ago was his op and is he doing well otherwise.

It feels soft and squishy but he won't let me poke it as he's still sore down there. Its at the end of his scar which has finally healed after 8 weeks of battling a very severe infection. He is just starting to perk up and get back to normal. Poor lad!

Thanks for your help!

If he has only recently recovered and it is at the end of the scar there is a chance it will continue to improve and may even go completely in time. He has done well to get over the surgery and 8 weeks infection:eek: you must have been so stressed, hopefully you will be able to relax and have him as good as new again.
Mine lived a good 14 years before losing him aged 24 and he was also lucky as he had 2 ops in 48 hours he was going to be pts but suddenly picked up and got better.

That's good to know, I'm not bothered cosmetically just don't want anything wrong with him again! Lol it has been a nightmare and there have been several times I've though he wouldn't pull through but he did and seems to be feeling very well in himself now. I couldn't have coped without my very supportive fellow livery's and YO. Don't know how you got through 2 ops in 48 hrs!

My pony had colic surgery 9 years ago and has a string of 11 hernias running along his scar never caused him any problems xx
