Enormosaurus and I did our second competition last Sunday (first official one), still at home. A lot more people, horses and activity (including a couple of really not helpful people in inflatable T-Rex suits - I could feel her heart pounding against my legs), so a lot more excitable horse. We had a few rears before the warm up and some napping / backwards thinking when entering the round, but once I managed to negotiate the forwards gear, she was excellent. A nice clear round at 70cm, so very pleased with her.
Enormosaurus' owner was there and very happy and highly complimentary about my riding and our bond. He's talking about championships next year. We'll see. I'm not sure I'm the most qualified person to bring out Enormosaurus' potential (and boy does she have lot of it!). But for now, I'm what she's got so I plan to try to bring her on as best I can and see how far we go. Who knows, when I max out, maybe she'll be ready to go do great things with her next rider.

A different weekend for mine...

Many of you will know that my husband died suddenly and unexpectedly last year. At that time, BH had been out twice a week, doing lessons, farm rides, dressage, SJ, a little one day event etc. After my husband died, BH did nothing for a long time.

Over winter I have just hacked and schooled, including jumping clinics. Not intense work, but BH has at least been back in regular work. I am astonished to say that, in January, I got a boyfriend and, this weekend, we went away together for the first time, to Montenegro.

BH went to a friend's professional yard, where he learned to use a horse walker, was ridden daily and even had a jump. Rigs stayed at home and had a great team to look after him. One team was a friend husband and wife team, who had owned their own horses. The other was my builder who, until recently, had never touched a horse. He has grown fond of Rigs and was excited to do 2 visits a day. Because of his dietary requirements, Rigs needs 4 nets a day, and it all worked out perfectly for him!

I am still doing the house renovation, so both boys have a back seat at the moment. I have other things to organise but Rigs is well cared for and BH is only 7, so loads of time to catch up with any competitive aspirations.

Chilli and I had a great time at WE camp. We arrived early Saturday morning and I headed into a psychology workshop. Came back to a very dozy Chilli...unfortunately the sleepiness didn't extend into the arena and we had a very tense and spicy first 'ease of handling' lesson! Luckily it was with a trainer who has met him a few times. He was still very good with the obstacles themselves. After a quick nap (for both of us - my old dog had kept me awake for half the night, probably stressed about the storm coming!) we had a dressage test run-through. Chilli was far more relaxed in the warm-up then rode like a tank on a pogo stick for the test itself, it was hideous. We spent the rest of our time with the judge getting him to relax so we ended the day with some nice work.

Lovely dinner and a massive sleep (apparently it was a bit windy...I didn't even notice 🤣) we were back to it for another ease of handling lesson inside followed by a EOH test with the judge outside. Chilli had clearly had a massive sleep as well, plenty of squashed poos, poo stains and not much hay gone! However he was far more relaxed and did a great job, except gates which are usually our strong point... In the test ride we got an 8 for our sideways pole, with the judge saying it's the best she'd seen all morning across all levels, a 7 for our bridge but down to a 4 for the rope gate.

We learnt loads and met some lovely people (including other HHOers!). I'm waiting on a video from our EOH test yesterday PM but here are a couple of clips from the lesson yesterday morning, including our new gate problem and Chilli helping me to fix it ;):

Love him! What a helpful boy. Maybe he's thinking you just do the rope loop bit and he'll do the rest? :D

If he'd stopped going backwards in the first place we'd both have had an easier job 🤣. Not sure why he lost his gate skills on day two, he 'clicked' with the gate a few months back and has been brilliant since then. I'll have to setup my rope gate at home again and get it back on track... I do absolutely adore him though despite the ridiculous behaviour at times!

I hadn’t realised that red-1, that’s very sad, but I’m glad to hear there are good times still to be enjoyed 👍
It was mainly on Rigsby's thread. It was a shock. About 9 months ago, I didn't think I would ever be happy again. Many great friends grabbed me and kept me running onwards. For some weeks, Joe Midgley came and rode BH once a week and he did little else.

I grabbed myself and started a house renovation in case I needed to sell up.

Things are a lot more settled now and finding love was astonishing!

Just been lying on a rug this afternoon for a bit watching my miracle horse mooch about with the sun on his back. He may be arthritic, neurologic, irreparably broken but he is still the perkiest and most exuberant little horse you could meet!

Feeling very lucky he’s still here. But of course jealous of you all riding etc!

I just love the matching stance. Looks like they are about to go into a synchronised dance routine 😁
