I just like to share in case anyone out there is feeling stuck or down due to horse injury and for those that may have seen or commented on a previous thread of mine found here

But today this horse did her first ever competition, a BD affiliated medium test and came second. I am buzzing! Lots to work on still but so proud. For anyone struggling never question getting a second opinion, or a third and never question following your gut. While not all horses can be saved or rehabbed I’m glad I did not PTS on the say so of one Vet.

I'm so pleased for you!
It can be so hard sometimes to seek those 2nd opinions. Why shouldn't we trust the profressionals we pay? Yet most of us have first or second hand experience of having to push for extra diagnostics because we 'KNOW' there is a problem, despite being told the horse is fine, or seeking 2nd opiions because we feel the original diagnosis was unsatisfactory for some reason. A friend has just been through this - she was sent to a specialist practice for a work-up, but felt the examination was rather cursory and the diagnosis didn't fit the history (completely available but totally ignored). She went to another specialist practice, and has now got to the bottom of it. If she had taken the advice of the first practice, the horse would have had unnecessary , expensive procedures, and still be lame.

I trust and respeect my vet implictly, but he has at times referred me for work he is not equipped to deal with, and often I feel it is the lack of cummunication,and/or lack of time and willingness to properly take on board any relevant history which can cause problems.

I missed your thread first time round, congratulations on rehab well done!

I was a little shocked at the first vet tbh. I had a cast for 6 weeks, ankle to top of thigh, and when the cast came off I could not weight bear. It was like my joint was stodgy.

Wonderful first result at BD too.

yes us too with on the vet and this a “Top” vet. They came to the yard a few weeks ago for another livery who was a bit colicky and they were walking the horse round while I was riding, the vet came over to say hello and said “this is a nice horse, which ones this” he nearly fell over when I said the one with that gammy leg.

You can only hope they learn from that!
