Had my boy down to Newmarket, suss OCD. They have had a look and found cracks in the cartlage in stifle. Not good news. Cannot fix it?

Anyone ever had a horse with this??? He is 4, unbacked and should have been destined for dressage! Now got to wait and see how he goes from op, they flushed out hocks and other stifle. Month box rest, then med joints, month out and see.....

If they are medicating his stifles, with some rest fingers crossed there will be an improvement. Cartilage doesn't heal all that well, not like bone, but there are many new things coming through to encourage healing nowadays. Don't give up hope, although may not compete to the level you were hoping. But may come sound....

My horse had op on stifle to remove chip last week - no real prognosis as you say until reassessment in 4 weeks. Hopefully horse will make good recovery (and mine too!) Am allowed to take mine out to graze in hand once a day which is a help. Good luck and let me know how you get on.

Yep got one with cartilage damage as you describe, and it's not OCD. Mine had tildren and adequan post op along with synequin. Touching wood 12 months on he's back out competing and staying sound. Surgeon was very cautious about whether he'd be sound enough to compete, but so far so good (he had the op at as he was turning 5). Good luck!!

I'm wondering if stem cell will heal him, they seem to be cracking on with how it can help. I hope maybe it could, I believe they take cartilage from a healthy area and 'grow' it? over night then inject it back in?? At the end of the day, If he isn't in pain and I can find a way of getting him sound I will. I am not going to throw him away just yet. I have read some horror story's and then some people have been very encouraging, it helps to keep me grounded but also gives me a bit of hope... Thanks peeps ps he is on Cortaflex, surelimb and brewers yeast.
