How far apart are your posts or is ideal for horse fencing?
I don’t know how far mine are but remember saying to OH when it was done they were too far apart.
For years it wasn’t a problem so I ate my words.
However latest horse has been bit of a sod to keep in!
Fence is wooden post, mains electric rope.
Testers say it’s working all round. It’s never damaged and never clear where he’s got out.
So I have gone round and added plastic posts between the wooden ones and hey presto no more escaping. Currently only done one small trash paddock but would ideally like to get a load more wooden ones and do it properly. The plastic looks scruffy and they are too low.
Working out how many i need to buy. Luckily some sides are hedged so they are fine to stay as they are.

We have just had extensive post and rail fencing on our yard. The posts are 6 ft apart, if that helps.
Yes thanks. Mine are defo mire than that I’m sure.
Gives me something to go and step out tomrrow!
Half the length of the rails is pretty standard
It’s all electric, I’m not sure how long a rail is 😳 agree that would be the obvious!

I've got fieldguard tape up on some of my fencing and those posts are either 4 or 5 metres apart, depending on which bit of the fence it is. I've not had any problems with that, but it's the thicker fieldguard tape and I think with rope I might want posts closer together just for the visual aspect. Another yard near me as the posts the same distance apart with narrower tape and don't seem to have any problems either.

My outer fences are 6ft apart with 3 rails but the ones between paddocks are 12ft with one rail and 2 electric strands.

The ones that go near the road also have a 4th topper of electric tape, making them rather tall!

Bumping as curious what the ideal electric fence post spacing is. For internal fencing (not perimeter fencing) if it makes a difference? thanks

I generally do 6 or 7 very wide paces for each post distance, as im walking along…@4m distance.

Keeping it properly tensioned is the key, but I usually went for three to four meters between posts, starting with my bum pressed against the previous one (So I could keep a straight line lol).
If I was short on posts though I did stretch it out to maybe five, but I preferred not to leave huge gaps as you get sagging.

All I can suggest is that you try pacing out various numbers of strides and deciding what looks best to you. Once decided you can measure how long that is and provided you know the total length can calculate how many you need. Get a few extra in case you decide to change the spacing and/or in case any get broken.

I have mine 10 strides apart. The permanent electric fencing is diabolically spaced because YO is a tight arse. I put electric fence posts in the gaps, as some of the spaces between posts are15-20 metres and no, I don't mean feet!
