Please post me your pics of your hunter clips, especially the angles on the legs etc., im doing a hunter clip on my boy and just wanted to get some ideas pls - thank you
Be careful doing inside back legs...a lot of horses are quite sensitive there and aren't keen on clippers. I had to make a real point about desensitising my boy by brushing there a lot!.
I'm a blanket clip fan. If my horse needed it I would give him a hunter clip I suppose but he doesn't get a very thick winter coat so a blanket clip suffices.
having said that, anythign goes here. You can clip your horses hair in any shape or form that you want. I did a slightly different blanket clip on Toscan last year just because.......well, just because. My friends had also sorts of things. Hair going into point down the back legs, zigzag across the belly, bubbles on the shoulders. It was great fun - LOL
fihunt - she is gorgeous though! Ron isn't going anywhere either, and he's got a waiting list too!
btw, fwiw all those pics are at the end of a season's hunting, and he isn't usually that run up, but after 30days hunting last season I don't think he looks all that bad in the pic (the one where he's not looking at the camera, where I'm at my roundest).
p.s. he is 16.2, just that OH was riding and 18hh dinosaur of a horse!
Blanket clips are the bain of my life did one 2 years ago on my boy, stood there and drew up all the lines with blue chalk (hes mainly grey) and after i'd finished clipping there was nearly an inch difference from one side to the other and i'd totally got the legs wrong and he looked a right mess
He gets a very wooly coat and very sweaty also even after half hours hacking, so ive decided its all coming off this year
Thanks for the pics there great
If anyone has a pic of the insides of the back legs too that would be great
start off by doing a normal tail plait, keep going all the way to the end of the dock, and then include the rest of the tail in the plait.
put a band or two in the end to hold the plait in.
then, take a needle and about 1.5metres of plaiting thread, tie a little loop in the end of the thread. put the need through the plait about there the band is and then through the loop at the end of the thread, pull tight and wrap the thread around the end of the plait a couple of times tightly.
fold the plait up to the top of the dock (on the outside), and then stitch the plait to itself - go under the bit next to the dock, through the bulky end bit, and back under the bit next to the dock, all the way to the round endy bit at the bottom, and back up if you have enough thread left. tie it off just using a couple of single knots.
On the hind legs I use my thumb and first finger. I put my thumb on the point of hock and then strecth my first finger up the back leg,and start the clip where my finger lies, thats how I get the clip level on both legs (well nearly!) I then take the clip to the indent of the stifle x
