Posted as a joke, but now thinking about it!

Completely - I'm starting to consider competing on my own a bit more these days because my friend who usually takes me is getting too busy to go out as much as I'd like.

Would take the rents but "dad can you hold my horse for a sec" usually results in an old man gripping super tight onto a nervous horse's reins and staring him in the face. Not an ideal combo.

And my mum just cries at competitions so she's out of the question!

I get a bit nervous out on my own so yes, I'd definitely sign up to receive a buddy for the day!

Ha ha, I do like your "ad"s! :D

I think there may well be interest in this type of thing, a few posters on here often mention going to things on their own and would probably like a friendly face/some help.

I know if I'm not riding, I love hanging around and helping others, it's nice to be involved without too much of the stress! ;)

You missed out which area you were in though. :)

I feel a cunning plan coming on LOL
'Rent a Mums' or 'Show Buddies' must have the following qualifications:
Deep pockets for tissues, hoof picks, plaiting bands, studs and tap.....
Must be able to pack a good picnic.
Must be able to wipe tears, snot and *other*
Must be prepared to stand around for hours in the cold.
Must have ability to nod and shake head at appropriate times.
Should be of sound mind.
Should have a calming influence.
Should be prepared for every eventuality.

I can offer my services! I'm in Glasgow and can offer
Army medical training (thorough but not very sympathetic!)
Vast pockets for snacks/horse bribery/hip flask if required
Sympathy/boot up the backside (delete as required)
Patience
Never ending supply of baby wipes/ polos/plaiting thread etc
My youngster is too young to do much with and I'm fed up of our local big venues looking at me like I have two heads because I just turn up to watch and mooch about!

I think it's a brilliant idea!! Why not put a few ads around local tack shops/pony club/R club websites and see what comes of it!!? OR also there is the new share/buddy scheme on the BE website, perhaps you could get on there? My mum would have paid for you when I was a pony-clubber as her heart was never in it!! You will be too much for me to afford right now, but I will certainly aspire to you after I finish uni!!!! :D

I'd also volunteer myself if I had a car (there arn't many BE events you can get to by bus/train!)

Added to WhoopsiiD's already fab two lists, I also LOVE tack cleaning (am a little bit OCD about it...) so would quite happily clean tack/watch horse whilst someone walked course etc.

WoopsiiD I love it - you are describing my job as a PC/eventing mummy. I have to be honest I wouldnt have the time to offer my services as they are pretty much taken up with either Pony Club or BE stuff with Mini TX. However, I reckon there are a lot of really unhorsey mummies out there who would love you to come along and scoop up their little darlings and take them off to the nearest show/pony club rally/local gymkhana (god, do they still exist). Now, however, there are some downsides to this type of job. You will need to make sure that you chuck in at least a couple of the following comments/actions:

After they have rolled one pole down in sj, either pure sj or eventing, scream at them for their total incompetence.

After they have left the dressage arena after a fairly nice test, scowl at the little darling and tell them that their horse was not forward enough and that test was ****, and you are sure that the judge though so too.

Walk the xc course with them in tight lipped, white faced silence, gasp at the size of the jumps, offer no advice whatsoever when said child asks for help, hide behind secretary's tent in earshot of the commentary, shaking visibly.

Scream 'Do you know how much that pony cost?' pretty loudly when said child makes a mistake in whatever discpline they compete in.

At all costs, buy a huge, bespoke lorry for their child. OK, your son/daughter has a 13.2hh dartmoor pony that they take to local shows, but what the hell, it looks good.

I have to say I dont do any of these personally, apart fro a little bit now that she is doing JRNs and Novice, which are mahoosive and scare the life out of me. However, hope your new career goes well. Our PC is pretty well served with horsey mums, but I am sure you will find many takers.

LOL that reminded me off the time I went to Bicton with a friend. She had a fantastic lorry that her fool father had resprayed and it had the Union Jack on the front and on the back with Great Britain written just above 'Caution Showjumpers in Transit'.
As you can imagine when we pulled up at the show ground there was a bit of ummming and ahhhing only for us to unload 13.2hh of welshxarab with an attitude!!!

LOL, have seen that a fair few times. The funniest one was at a BD competition where my daughter was competing. The lorry was massive and out trotted a little 12.2hh bay pony with immaculate plaits with white tape, bespoke tack and the smallest, smartest kid I have ever seen in a patey, top to tail in mini Pikeur, who proceeded to go into the warm up arena where mummy relayed instructions via one of those intercom thingys. We were with the trailer trash, with daughter on her eventer (a ***** pony at that, ie skewbald), who proceeded to beat all of them with their posh lorries. Made my day and cant wait to go back and do it again. Plenty of mummies there given their offspring a hard time. By the way WoopsiiD you have got to get your outfit right as well .......

Could I rent-a-mum? Iam down here! My biggest problem is Meg doesn't tie up, so just someone to hold her would be brilliant!! Not that I go competing very often.
Thankies.
Brilliant idea BTW.

I'm 28 but I'd love a Rent-a-mum for events. None of my family are into it so I have to pressgang a long suffering friend and most of them go pale at the sight of Lily!
