"It is really easy to judge and make comment but we will never truly understand what went throught her mind at the time the horse went lame, "

Clearly not the welfare of the poor horse, yes pulling the horse up earlier may well have had the same outcome, but adrenalin fueled or not she must have felt that something wasn't right and stopped, and as for the fact that the poor women has to live with it- nah don't suppose she'll give it a second thought.
She is a disgrace.!!!

It's a bad situation all around, a friend of mine was there actually watching it happen and she said it was just awful.

no matter what level you ride at, your horse's well being should be your top priority.

after he broke down into a jog she should have pulled him up. Even if it had been a thrown shoe.

any jockey at any track in ANY race would have gotten off right away and scratched.

she's an excellent horse woman and she KNEW her horse had broken down, yet she pushed to the finish line anyways. This was a complete disregard to her horse. She knew what she was doing and it was wrong. I don't think a lifetime ban is right, but 2+ years for sure would be fine by me.

I have looked all over the internet for the video but i cant find it , i would like to make my opinion once i have seen it. Can any one send me a link...?

OH MY GOD!!!
Surely a life ban on riding horses is the only fit punishment.
I recently had a 4 mile walk home after deciding my horse did'nt "feel quite right". Vet came nothing could be found and he was sound the next day.
The video made my blood boil....SELFISH...SELFISH...SELFISH

I have just watched the video for the first time today... I have not really wanted to watch it because of what has been said on here, but I thought I should do before commenting on this thread.

The horse really stumbled, then went very lame. I am sorry, there is no way she would not feel that. We all know what it feels like to sit on a slightly lame horse, so an experienced rider sitting to that would have felt something was wrong instantly. Especially if they are used to riding that horse 6 days a week. You can see the poor thing swapping leads to try and make itself more comfortable, but even on the opposite leg, you could see how lame it still was. To jump that last jump in my opinion was dispicable! The suspension has allowed this young lady an easy option in my view, she should be banned from BE events for life. Otherwise, what sort of message does that send to young riders??? Continue riding, no matter how the horse feels underneath you???

That is horrible to watch. After the stride where the Horse stumbles, he takes another 29 strides (It's actually very hard to count due to the erratic nature of the strides, I counted 3 times and got 29 twice, 28 once) before the jump. Interestingly a friend of mine let her 7 year old daughter watch the clip and after the stumble she said 'Mum that Horse has gone lame, shouldn't she stop her Horse?'. Enough said.
If I feel my Horse stumble, and then not go instantly sound again I get off and make sure all is OK. I hear what people are saying about experience but this happened while the Horse was cantering in a straight line, no jump was involved. I'd say the vast majority of riders on here can comment on this with sufficient competence. The thing with with eventing is, even if you finish the XC the Horse still has to trot up sound the next day before SJ so why even bother risking it?
That Horse clearly went lame and there was more than enough room to pull him up. You can see how much leg she is using to make the Horse carry on. Makes me feel sick. Horses are such forgiving animals they will carry on despite pain. You only need to see pictures of Horses and Donkeys in really poor countries to realise that. Their owners know no better..........

I can't see it

And really want to now too......

Oh by the way most riders dont ride the horse 6 days a week at that level their grooms do that. They will usually rotate round depending on schedules, competitions etc. I thinks she got off very lightly, because in my eyes that was down right cruel. You are correct as far as money is concerned as the outlays in entries, travel etc are very high but they are very often suplimented by sponsorship, & at her level I dont suppose she has too much to worry about. I hope her reputation takes a good pounding & owners think twice about placing their horses with her. If she can honestly say she did not know that horse had gone lame under her, then she should not be riding. Sorry but I along with many others have been on a horse that has just not felt right, if you care you dont push them. Even in the heat of competition what is viewed on that clip is inexcusable. What I dont understand is why when she must have known he was unlikely to pass for the SJ phase therefore it was lost anyway.
