Hi all

We currently have a 16.2 cob x at home on abut 1.5 acres. Little one who has been riding for a year now is ready for his own pony.

Just wondering what peoples thoughts of having 2 on 1.5 acres. We not currently in a position to but anymore land but w'eve got the spare stable and the grass is managed reasonably well and is in two paddocks which both get halved and rotated regally.

Currently my mare is out 24/7 and in during the winter. but she will be coming in early this year due to the grass shortage. Happy to feed hay etc..

Just looking for an outsiders point of view, before we make any commitments.

Thanks !!

I’m guessing you’re looking at a Shetland/Welsh A? They don’t eat a huge amount or take up much space in my experience.

I would purely for the fact I don't think horses should live alone.
She always been individually turned out since we had her. When we first had her she was in a herd setting and hated it was either at the gate or in a corner away from all the other horses. We tried her with a number of horses and the same thing. Moved to a yard that was individual turn out and she was much happier. we do have sheep and cows on site which she can always see as well as a couple of goats, so she's not totally alone, but defiantly prefers her own space.

I think you’ll be tight for grazing, especially if goats and sheep included on site, and especially if we have more parched / drenched weather swings.
If you routinely keep them both inside overnight and manage pasture well - sounds more promising.
Pick a wise pony, or could have separation anxieties to deal with when yours is ridden!
