Potential New Horse *pics* and short vid advice needed!

Yay so unfortnately my baby rosco has to be turned away for 6 months due to ligament damage I was destroyed having worked so hard on him and had finally got him to a stage where we could compete seriously : ( !

However My truly amazing dad stepped up to the platform adn has offered to buy the horse i have been riding at our yard who is for sale! granted i would have to sell him after 6 months but I would have a gap filler and he has really given me confidence jumping a real push button especially compared to my tank of an exracer!! He is 15.2 tb he is 17 but very low mileage and acts like a 4yo so really exciting. I would actually be able to do pc/rc and jump properly all summer but i dont want to get all attached and have to say goodbye...!anyway here is a pic let me know what you think. Like i said i just like how he makes me feel and was even good on the downs etc...!

Before anything else I think you need to think long and hard about how easy it is going to be to sell a 17 year horse at the end of summer.
 
yeah i know... he is such a sweet boy though real ideal happy hacker who will jump a decent track (pic and vid is only from first time i rode him and im not very confident he wouldnt go for much or anything and a real bargain as it is... x
 
Looks like a lovely horse but realistically it is going to be very hard to sell a 17yr old ex-racer when you can buy much younger versions so cheaply. If you can keep him, then buy him but if you have to sell, you won't get much.
 
your post makes me really sad. The poor fella, only having a home for six month, at his age. I think it would be totally unfair - and can you guarantee finding him a safe forever home afterwards ?? Don't just use this horse for your own ends, he deserves FAR better.

Sorry, but I think this stinks. :mad:
 
Lovely horse but can't you loan one for 6 months if your only going to get rid at the end of summer? Then you don't have to worry about the horse not selling or being sold so cheap and ending up in a bad home :confused:
 
firstly im sorry if i made it unclear i consider welfare of the UTMOST importance and i would NEVER consider buying a horse from elsewhere to have for 6 months but there would be no change in his routine and he would stay at his present yard and i would continue to ride him he would just be sold at a later point. we get on really well and he has so enjoyed it when ive taken him up on the downs, i would obviously ensure that he has a home for life (well to the furthest extent i can) money is completely insignificant in comparison with his happiness. I dont want to loan as (not exaggeration) everyone i know who has a loan has had lots of trouble with contracts and i dont want to go through that.
 
Lovely as long as you can afford to keep him through a winter should he not sell. The Market is bad and a 17 year old tb won't be very saleable especially coming into winter

yeah i know but like i said money isnt a problem and i would rather wait another 6 months and pay livery than see him go to a home i dont approve of.

Can you not loan him from the owners at the yard? I'm sure you'd be doing the owners a favour if they don't ride.. I would be put off from buying him due to his age though

I know we have tried but she has to sell even though hes only a small amount due to money needs for opperations... we did ask but like i said, unfortunately not possible x
 
As long as you can afford to keep him through winter when/if you can't sell him, that is fine. Let's face it, a rising 18 yr old TB isn't the most attractive prospect coming into winter.
So, be prepared to keep hold of him :)
 
yeah tbh we dont mind if he has to stay a while longer as can do 2 while bringing my boy back into work... hes also good for a tb... lived out all year round in the past (though i do have a nice stable for him : ) ) and carries weight easily real good does so hardley a tb to be honest!! not even quirky!
